K3 Card

When I turn on my K3 it shows both slots, with a card in one slot and how many images are still available on that card. When I then take a photo, the image shows up, but with "No Card In Camera" over the top of it and it does not write to the card. I have tried multiple cards, all of which work in my K5 just fine, but will not write on my K3. Any ideas?

if I understand it, you have one card in one of the two slots correct

you then take your photo and the camera says no card correct

did you try switching the card to the other slot and take a picture

if that works, check your settings to see if you only have one of the two slots selected for recording??

not sure you can do that but that is my WAG

let us know what happens

" The K-3 has two SD card slots, something Pentax users (other than 645D owners of course) have been requesting for a while. This is particularly handy given that wireless tethering requires a Flu-card to be inserted. One can thus have the Flu card in one slot and a high-capacity/high-speed card in the other.
With two memory cards inserted, the options for image storage are:
When card #1 runs full, writing continues on card #2
Write to both cards in parallel (thus creating a backup)
In RAW+ mode: Write RAW to one card and JPGs to the other card
In movie mode, you can select which of the two cards is used for file storage. You cannot do so in sequential mode for stills, however: a strange omission. . . .

Were the cards formatted in the K3 or the K5?

When I switch slots the new slot then shows the card, if I put in two card they both show up as they should. The card was formatted in the K3 and worked perfectly until just recently when this issue showed up.I just formatted the card in the camera and still have the same problem.

There is an issue with cameras with two card slots as implemented by Pentax. The camera is expecting a card in a certain slot. If you have only one card in, but it is not in the slot the camera is expecting it to be in you could get this problem.

You might also get it if you are set to save photos to both cards, or RAW to one and JPG to another. It might fail if you have only one card it.

For two card slot cameras I ALWAYS have two cards, one in each slot.

Regards

Chris

I worked perfectly until about a week ago, then the problem showed up, having a card in each slot doesn't help. I can format the card in the slot, but can't access the images from the camera or save images to the card.

Could be a bad card. Which brand are you using?

All my cards can't be bad, and they work in my other Pentax DSLR's

It was a legitimate question. So, if all other cards work fine in other cameras, my suggestion would to have the camera itself checked out by a repair facility.

Maybe I missed this advice. When all else fails, do a camera reset to return everything to default settings. At worst, you have to redo all custom settings. At best, it may save a trip to the repair shop. I've read lots of posts here where a reset solved weirdness.

I don't think they make one.

I was under the impression he'd already done a reset, as that's what I would have done if all else failed.

I was referring to that manual. Not the camera manual.
