Wife interested in photography, have spare K3 she can use.

Ok folks my wife has been taking a few shots with my K01, but she is wanting to use something she can take on hikes, so she is leaning towards some weather sealed body.
I have two K3s and am actually selling one of them (note to self.....remove from marketplace) and have suggeste her to use it. she told me it was too big, but I fixed that by removing the grip, and now it fits her small hands perfectly.
The question I have is what lenses should I recommend, she still wants to remain using something as lite as she can, so I have the 18-135 on it which she just love using anyways.
She is still into using it in full auto mode (ya......the dreaded green square setting) because she wants to still use it like a point and shoot camera, at least until she shoots more and gets into more creative ideas. When I am out shooting and want something compact I use my 55-300 PLM and am rather stingy with it, and funds are tight so cannot afford another one and dont want to spent that kind of money on another one anyways, but with all the holiday deals out there, they have the HD screw drive models on the cheap. should I get one of those? or are there other alternatives that you all advise on? she has access to any of my lenses other wise but they are all a bit too heavy for her. thanks in advance.

The DA 20-40 Limited is WR and pretty light... less reach for more quality and a lighter package...

She might also enjoy a K-70 more than a K3, being lighter and having more auto modes. It still has two wheels and enough controls for when she wants to experiment more with her own settings.

shes good with the weight of the K3, has used my K5, but it is incapacitated at the moment and there really isnt much of a size/weight difference to the K3. We have all these camera bodies, so buying another is rather outta the question for now, plus I'm saving up for K1

If she finds the K-3 + 18-135 too heavy, get her an Oly 10 Mk2 kit for the price of a 55-300.

Another vote for the 18-135. I've used that lens exclusively for months at a time on my K-5 and no complaints.
Also, the ultimate in compact but versatile is a K-3 with the DA 40mm XS. You can usually pick up a used lens for less than $150, and the IQ is fantastic

You have the 55-300 PLM, buying a non PLM will be very disappointing. Stick with the 18-135, or maybe get her a macro or a 15 for something different.

The 18-135 is about perfect for green mode. It is the equivalent of the old 28-200 lenses with higher quality. Alternative options:

17-70 (several brands)
16-85 (larger and heavier)
18-200, 18-250, 18-270, 18-300 (this last only 3rd party) (also larger and heavier and more compromised image quality)
28-200 as mentioned earlier but this gives up quality and size.

Personally I'd buy a 17-70 just to avoid having duplicate lenses to make it more interesting. I like the Pentax f4 constant aperture but it had a reputation for sdm failure. The sigma with f2.8-4 is an excellent alternative.

ya she has used the 18-135 on and off over the past ten years and so I leave it on the one K3 for her to use. she is expressing interest in macro shooting

the KP is a fine camera from what I hear, but with all my camera bodies, I really dont need another body other than the K1 that I am saving up for

The cheap manual macro lenses available are a great backup option for when she takes the dfa 100 from you. Lol.

usually she will go shooting with me, I am more into telephoto, landscapes, old machinery, and new, so all the lenses I normally use are wide angle and telephoto. So her using the macro will most likely be no problem, Im thinking she wont need more reach than the 18-135, and if she does then I am thinking of getting a 1.4 TC.
plus when she goes shooting on her own, it will most likely be when I am at work, so she will have access to all my gear, I'm sure she will love that.
