I think that initially the K-3 mark3 will probably be between $1,850 and 2,050 dollars U.S. for a few reasons. First Pentax has mentioned a few times about the new optical view finder ( and pentaprism) and the special glass used to make it. Second, the metering sensor was increased from 86K (86,000) pixels to 307k (307,000). Third this is the first time Pentax is using the Sony 26 megapixel APS-C chip. But the biggest added expense to the K-3 mark iii is the fact that this is the first time that Pentax has purchased a phase detection license from Sony. Since Pentax is a niche player in the photography market a phase detection license would be expensive for them (and us initially) . That license is probably adding $100 to $300 dollars to the cost of this camera. The only way to get that cost down is to sell a lot of dslrs so that the cost per unit will eventually be less in order to recoup the cost of the license.

I'm sure that is true. But I don't think the difference has been more than a few hundred $ in the past. Oh well, nothing we need worry about until next spring anyway.

But looking up these release prices made me realize that I took delivery of my K-1 in May of 2016. So next spring will make the K-1 5 years old and no replacement in sight........... I think the old theory of an 18 month camera cycle is out the window.

The price tag should be similar to K-3, or rather even a little lower (as most of us have quite bad times, right?). Price level similar to FF camera would be simply absurd.

Nothing close to a revolution, IMHO just normal technical progress.

That is true, but ,Pentax's staff which has been reduced in recent years is trying to make competitive alternatives to what is already out there. Their budget is not as big as the "big boys" so they try to make cameras that will appeal to Pentaxians and others who enjoy the "Art of Photography".

That is not newly designed, as they stated, but newly bought!

I'm fully with them. No need to follow trends like mirrorless, etc.. Instead, improving what they already have. That should be anyway cheaper than totally new development, right? But then also the price tag should be reasonable. (Look at the iPhone. New, faster and more powerful components, but same price as last year...)

It is very expensive and time consuming to develop an auto focus system that is comparable to phase detection. The only one that is currently on the same level is dual pixel auto focus by Canon. Contrast based Auto focus is what Pentax had and that is slower to focus. It is harder to use for fast moving subjects, children, sports and birds in flight.

1900Ä Is a lot of money for an aps-c camera , no matter how advanced (in comparison to the predecessor). Itís always going to be a crop sensor. This fact along with the actual k-1 II will make it a very tough decision, buying.

In the film he said "medium to high •200,000s, that would suggest $2k which is the same price as the Fuji X-T4. It sounds expensive, but then Samsung phones cost $1200. Clearly they are oblivious to the global downturn and mass unemployment! I just watched the video by Kobi Mercury Clark. I lost count of the times he said " same as the KP", so I will stick with the KP and when I have the cash, I'll buy glass

I do not understand the logic of comparing the (I assume) used price you paid with the 'official release' price. I paid full price for my K-1 on pre-order and then paid the cost to upgrade to a mkII. So I have about $2,300 invested in mine. Which price is correct? It could be said you are a much better shopper than I am but I do not think comparing your cost to mine has any relevance to the release price.
The price was for a brand new K1-MII purchased in 2019 march to be exact. On top of that at the same time I purchased the Pentax SMC D-FA 100mm Lens, Macro F / 2.8 WR, Black and the Pentax 38607 Battery Socket D-BG6. The total package came to $2452.13. All brand new, mint in box. I live in Rome italy, the actual cost was €2080.72 but I used a cc based in the US in dollars and the exchange rate was at the time like $1.1785 dollars to the euro.

Was I a better shopper, I doubt it compared to most of my purchases. It was nothing more than being in the right place at the right time.

Ref the Poll: it'll be "High", so there should be an option of "only for millionaires"!

I think you are being modest. Being in the right place is part of being a good shopper!

Just another random thought:
If a company expected to sell a new widget to it's customers every 18 months for about $1,200 and then the world changed and they are now selling those customers a new widget every 48 months then in order to make the same amount of money the price of the widget has to go up to $3,000. Just a thought exercise, I am sure that things are a lot more complicated than that.

It depends. When the price/performance ratio is good, they might sell more (and earn more). But to continue with your exercise, they could also bring a new camera to market every 180 months and ask for 12.000 USD per piece.... Let's call it "being paid for postponing innovation" strategy.
