Even though the "MSRP" is $1,900, the "actual selling price" is usually a bit lower. I'd say the "actual selling price" is gonna be $1,500

I thought I heard in the video that the cost would be in the "high 200,000 Y" which could go to $2,800. That would put it on par with the list price of a Sony A7rIII or Nikon Z7ii
Won't happen

I'm a bit confused on the numbers listed in the poll or maybe my currency conversion app is wrong. In the video it said upper 200,000 yen. I plugged in 275,000 yen which is 'upper' but still not all the way the 'up'. That gives $2,600. 300,000 yen is $2,875

I've only heard that this inflated initial price is common for Japanese companies and that the equipment commonly sells (even in Japan) for less than the initial stated MSRP.
For those of you confused by the pricing suggestion of the Pentax video.... The Pentax K1II has an official list price of Y258,500 (approx $2460) PENTAX K-1 Mark II - ??????????? - ????? | RICOH IMAGING

Would all those who paid $2,460 for their K1II's please put their hands up!

The K3 III will be around $1300-1500

Ricoh, like all sellers of anything, will price the K3iii at the maximum amount or higher of what they believe the market will bear. Possibly by throwing out the upper 200,000 yen figure they are testing the market via feedback. I believe the price will be about 1500-1600 USD. Pentax has always been the leader in providing the best camera value when comparing build, quality, and features to price. That's the reason I went with Pentax in the first place. I got a mid level camera at an entry level price compared to all the others.

LOL, you can get a full frame K-1II for $1800, so why would anyone pay that much to get an APS-C camera with a lower resolution sensor and no flippy-screen. I want a mirrorless camera that I can use my K-mount lenses on.

I guessed $1,800 which is probably high. I don’t think this camera is such a big deal if released spec’s are all there is. If at CP+ they show major new engineering (new AF, new image pipeline) well good. Otherwise it’s just the same old same old, updated a little bit.

They won’t even have two UHS-ll card slots. How Ricoh is that?

I guess that would be me. And I'm still confused. So should I believe all of the people who guess/hope/believe it will be $1,500 or Ricoh Imaging President who says it will be $2,500?

And I did pay about $2,300 for my K-1II after the upgrade cost. So raising my hand.

But to continue with your exercise, they could also bring a new camera to market every 180 months and ask for 12.000 USD per piece.... Let's call it "being paid for postponing innovation" strategy.
Yes, exactly. It is price / sales curve and all businesses use it. How much do I want to make? How many units do I want to make? Where on the curve is my best return on investment.

Usually it is assumed that pricing below cost is a bad idea long term. And pricing so high as to have only a few customers is also usually a bad idea. But someplace in the middle is a spot that makes the most ROI. And that is rarely on the lower end of the possible pricing strategies. But there are lots of other factors to be considered: whether you are trying to gain market share, whether you are trying to keep factories running at a certain capacity and so on.

They are both right. Ricoh President says 200,000 Yen official price. Retailer like B+H says $1500. Look again at the page I linked to. The Ricoh list price for K1 II is equivalent of $2640. B+H sell them for $1800. That is a long way below the official Japanese retail price.

Quote was "upper 200,000 yen" Which implies closer to 300,000 than 200,000...................... And $1,500 usd = 156,000 yen? 200,000 yen = $1,910 at today's rate. And 290,000 yen = $2,779 usd.

It is also a long way from the release date. Release price was (I think) $1,999 now 3 years later it is at $1,800.

Anyway, it does not matter. Price will be what it is and certainly hope it will be $1,500. If it aligns with a particular person's budget they might buy or not. I am not trying to be doom & gloom here, just truly confused that what I saw on the video does not match other's opinions. Probably I am wrong.

The only thing that matters is the camera is K-mount. Everything else is just static.

I am among those. Anything much more than USD1200 will be a very tough sell IMHO.

An APS camera is those who want an APS camera. It is irrelevant for me what a FF camera cost when I want a an APS body. Likewise, DSLR shooters want an optical viewfinder.

1900€ Is a lot of money for an aps-c camera , no matter how advanced (in comparison to the predecessor). It’s always going to be a crop sensor. This fact along with the actual k-1 II will make it a very tough decision, buying.
But what is wrong it being a crop sensor? If you think about it, FF is also a crop sensor.

The K-3 II has higher resolution than the K-1 II. It has fewer total pixels but greater density. 4.24 MP/cm² for the K-1 II vs 6.66 MP/cm² for the K-3 II (I believe the III will be even higher) so why would anyone pay that much to get a FF camera with lower resolution?
BTW, why would anyone want a mirrorless when for the same or less money you can get a DSLR? confused2
Perhaps there's more to consider than pixel count and flippy screens when choosing a camera?

Resolution in one thing but pixels looking at the image is another. If you are looking at the same equivalent image between the two cameras, the K1/K1-II will have 32 million pixel looking at it verses 24 million pixels from a K3 camera. More data from the same image. The K3 needs higher resolution because of the smaller image area.

During the age of film the larger the format used, the lower the quality of lens that you could get away with. A good lens on a 4 x 5 camera was often better than a great lens on a 35 mm camera when looking at the same field of view. There was a reason that SLR lenses were more expensive than medium or large format lenses. You had to squeeze every bit of resolution you could out of the design because of the extreme enlargement needed for usable images.

To make an 8 x 10 image from a 4 x 5 piece of film you enlarge it 4X.
To make the same size image from a FF sensor you have to enlargement about 60X.

To make the same size image from an APSc size sensor you need to enlarge it some 143X.
