Not to mention that resolution is to be considered when printing , mostly. So I wouldn’t bother. The quality of the sensors is not only about dimensions. The processor holds a great role. Color rendering and micro contrast , shadow noise and latitude.

I am thinking they take advantage of the the hardcore crowd that wants the latest and greatest by releasing it around $1800+ and then drop it substantially to $1500 or so once the preorders are out and stock piles up. I can't see more than a handful of the Pentax devoted paying that kind of money. I have no interest in switching to FF, but would still not shell out over $1200 for it. I typically buy tech in the 2nd or 3rd year though.

@bhbrake that’s what I thought. Once the price drops, it’ll still be a great camera. Anyway I don’t get the urge to get it right away.

Your price range sounds right, but perhaps it wii be tad higher and not quite as low for quite awhile. My K3II is doing great, and I got my son a KP recently so this new edition should be in my price range when needed.

Where's the companion poll of "How much more than you're willing to pay for an APS-C DSLR will the K-3 III cost?

Now that it is confirmed that the K3-III has no GPS and a fixed LCD screen to avoid "nose smudges" my buying price has dropped considerably.
No GPS because of fragility? Come on.
Here is how the fragile K1 is constructed:
A magnesium alloy is used for Front cover, Back cover, Bottom cover and LCD monitor frame.
An engineering plastic contained glass fiber is used for Top cover.

So far my "fragile" K3-II top cover has held up pretty well, no matter how fierce the rain drops.

I thought the extended viewfinder was to avoid nose smudges. It would have to come out a long way for my nose lol. I wonder if the proximity sensor on the viewfinder switches off the touch part of the touch screen.

I agree, GPS would be a good addition. Where doesd it mention fragility? I missed that

You are right. It does not mention fragility of top cover. The K1 is a tank, so is the K3 II, so it was probably just cost effective to get rid of the GPS and sell more O-GPS1s

There had been another thread with the same topic created later in 2020:

Main Interest

Dear All
I think the main interest in this camera will be from people who want to shoot in 4K and collector types.
As a regular Pentax photographer who has a K1 I will wait for a new full frame camera that also has 4K.
I guess that is why Pentax are pricing it fairly high as I guess They do not expect to sell many.

Actually, I think they expect to sell quite a few. They probably have to. The demand for a new APS-C has been growing. I also have a K-1ii but this camera interests me. They are different cameras for different uses. The unusual amount of marketing would also indicate a desire to help the new camera sell well.

I get the impression that the K-3iii will be heavily aimed at sports/wildlife shooters (hence no tilt screen and an emphasis on AF improvements). That puts it up against the Nikon D500, for example, which has a street price around $US1500. OK the K-3iii will have a 26mp sensor (rather than 20mp on the D500) and some other features, but you would think that it couldn't be priced too far above $1600 - especially given the price of the DFA 150-450 and the paucity of current telephoto alternatives in K-mount.

When the K1-II was announced I already had a K1. B&H had a pre order deal where you got a free battery grip along with the camera. Then for a few days they also offered a free battery. Well who turns down a "free" battery?

I am quite curious about this camera. I have a K3 but it went into semi retirement when I got my K1 in 2016. Since then I added a K1-II to the stable in 2018 and it has only been out a few times. I am pretty much all in on the full frame bandwagon but this camera may tempt me to give APSc another go but any word of an upcoming full frame version would change the the whole equation for me.

Since the start of the digital age Pentax has predominantly an APS-C brand. Most Pentaxians don't have a full frame kit. This is a camera for a) that established APS-C user base, b) people who want better action performance and c) people who like the DSLR features like an OVF.

They certainly won't sell as many as a Sony/Canon/Nikon equivalent, and I guess that is part of the reason for the relatively high price.
