In camera focus stacking

Is "in camera focus stacking" something that Pentax/Ricoh could do?

Would it be a wanted feature? I would certainly use it.

I imagine this could be a mode setting and user configurable with up to say 9 images shot at various short distance at a given fstop/shutter, produce raw+/raw to compose a macro image.

Do other manufacturers do this? If so it is Ricoh's job to do it better

Any other takes on this? How does in camera stack up with a manual focus stacking?

i did intend for this to be in Macro, but here it is in general section

The Ricoh GR has AF bracketing, so the natural next step would be to automatically combine the shots. But I also wish they added something along the lines of DOF bracketing!

yeah DOF bracketing would be great, a whole subject in focus and out of focus background, is that in essence the same/similar to focus stacking?

Same thing.

Certainly it could be done. But focus stacking is computationally intensive. Also, for most of the stacking I do, some manual adjustment is essential to get a good result. So I'm really skeptical about the usefulness of doing this in-camera. It would probably be about as useful as in-camera HDR/tonemapping.
