The patent plague

I have no idea what is happening, but seems that a new type of epidemic haunts around the heads of very rich peoples and firms.

I've just read about a new patent filed by Amazon for pictures with white background and a lighting arrangement. So, because of Amazon, I can't shot anything against a white background? Sorry for repetition.

Can I file a patent for yellow , or blue, or any color background, with whatever lighting scheme I imagine? That's insane.

Normally, you cannot place a batent for something that is obvious to anyone knowledgeable in a particular field. So they should never have been granted that patent. But I believe patent offices are simply overwhelmed by all the submissions they get and cannot cope anymore.

Is this really to be taken seriously? It reads like an April Fool's joke.

I'd like to be a joke, but until now, it seems to be real.

The patent was more in depth than that. It was a way to automatically make the product appear with a white background, no shadows, no support shown, etc. Don't worry about it, I doubt you're affected. Even if you were affected, Amazon would have to find out and then decide to sue you.
