Apparently Sony has done work on a curved sensor that allows for much simpler lens designs. They also have been creating lens designs to use it, like a 35mm 1.8 lens that has a very simple 4 elements in 3 groups design. The two prototype sensors are one full frame and one 1/2.3" compact camera size.
I wonder what kind of cameras these will end up in, and if these sensors will be available for other manufacturers like Pentax!
