Well .... I'll be ... !

Like many others here ... using a SLR/DSLR for decades and not knowing this little trick, especially at the end where it shows how to roll that annoying end of the strap so it doesn't show.

Thanks for sharing this !

Nikon Uses This Method Too

Nikon shows this same method for attaching camera straps.

And IIRC you even reviewed that little spike on the end of the retainer sleeve (which has reportedly disappeared)!
Yup.

Funny, that's how I've been putting my strap on just like in the video, for years.

I have to agree w/ DeadJohn. I am open minded to different ways of doing things, but this setup is just a bad idea.

I think I should have multi-quoted. You know, agree with everyone. :-)

Robert Benchley was a humorist, and wrote lots of very short articles in the 1930's and probably later at least. Some were collected into this book, which I read as a teen.

My Ten Years in a Quandary by Robert C Benchley

The phrase "how to roll a hoop", which I fondly remember after all these years, is found near the end of "Did You Know That ---"

I just looked more carefully and tested. Bunny ears are more secure and less likely than the linked method to work their way loose over time. In practice either method is safe enough, but the linked method offers no real benefits IMO. If the ears bother you just hide them by tucking them back under the sliding piece.

In other words, no need for the OP to feel stupid.

Actually more friction is created by the 180 deg bend the strap takes going thru the first part of the clasp. Either way certainly has enough friction but the linked way is more secure. Next time you see a large tent put up by professionals check the guy lines, they use the same type of method even tho they use a taught line hitch instead of a clasp.

I've had my camera strap this way for 4 months now... no slippage and no problems.

I learned that by carefully paying attention to how the straps were attached to my legacy eBay buys when replacing them. Before I started buying old cameras I attached the straps incorrectly.
