Lens question for Russia trip

The wife and I are going to Russia on vacation and I am debating what lenses to take.
I am wanting to save weight due to a bad back, 2 bad knees and hips.
I will be taking both the K3 and K5 bodies,
my 10-20mm Sigma, the 18-135wr in case of bad weather, and my normal walkaround 28-300 tamron.
We will be doing the standard tourist stuff in
Moscow and St Petersburg.
I have been toying with leaving the 28-300 home and just going with the 10-20 and the 18-135. Not having that 3rd lens would make walking around a lot easier, but will I miss having that extra zoom?
Normally I use the 10-20 and the 28-300 on trips, but seeing as this will be our only trip to Russia, I want the wr lens in case of bad weather

Thanks for any advice
Dennis

I hope you are going there soon otherwise instead of seeing famous St Petersburg white night you will see black days and you will need some very fast lens
I was just at short trip with only one lens F35-70 and I regretted only not having something wider. When you typically use 28-300 lenses? If you hope to use it for example to take photos of some wild life like birds then, frankly there is not too much interesting wild life in east Europe cities mostly sparrows and pigeons occasionally you may see cats and at best some squirrels Sadly stories about bears wandering at streets are usually not true..
Obviously the more gear the better, personally I would take 28-300 and if you decide it is not needed you can simply left it in a hotel, decision of course is yours to make.
I hope someone from Russia can give you some better advice.

Have a nice trip.

We're leaving on the 9th of September. I normally use the 28-300 as a everyday walkaround lens. For wildlife I use the Bigma (50-500)

Theft of camera gear is a real problem for tourists in both St. Petersburg and Moscow. I know I'm not answering your question, but the theft issue is very real and worth consideration.

The question of missing the longer zoom all depends on what kind of photography you plan to do there. If you're mostly into people, street and tourist shots, then you'll probably be fine with the 10-20 and the 18-135. Other than nature shots, I've always found long zooms more of a hindrance on trips than not. For me, the wide angle lenses are the ones I always regret leaving behind. There won't be much wildlife in St. Petersburg, though, another reason to save your back and knees and go with the lighter lenses. There are, however, a lot of interesting looking people there, so something in the portrait range can be very useful.

FWIW, when we go to Europe I take my K5 with a DA 16~45 and a DA 70. The camera has never failed me and rarely have I needed or wanted the 70. It stays in the bag most of the time. If I have regrets, it is not bringing my DA 15 limited. I've got a bad back as well and have always found that less is more. Your proposed camera kit looks like more to me. If if were you, I would take the 18~135 and call it done. The one thing that has bothered me is the lack of weather resistance in my lenses - even though a shower cap from the hotel does wonders in a pinch.

Welcome to Russia, Dma110! I hope you and your wife will enjoy your trip.

As for the lenses, I would definately take with me 10-20 and 18-135. 28-300 I would easily leave at home, I think its optical quality isn't so great.

For me, unless I am doing wild life, I never take anything linger than 135, and often only go to 75-85mm when city bound. I think the 10-20'and the 18-135 is all you really need
