MX-2 released!!! By Leica???

Unfortunately it's not made by Pentax. It will be interesting to see how much of a difference that little red dot will make with regard to successful sales. Oh, and all those little bits that the original MX should have had to insure success. Things like a hot shoe and optical viewfinder accessory. If the X2 is successful it will be a slap in the face to Pentax; a huge embarrassment. Price aside, because that red dot adds a huge premium, if the X2 sells well it will be an example of how Pentax missed the boat again with the whole "retro" thing.

I believe that a hot shoe, optional optical viewfinder, with the existing tilting screen would make an MX-2 more attractive than the X2. Of course, it would be just like Pentax to release an MX-2 with a hot shoe and optical viewfinder accessory but get rid of the tilting screen.

Is this something Leica is actually making, or is it just something made by Panasonic with the Leica logo?

Panasonic used to be referred to Maneshita (copycat) after all...

Who copied who? The MX-1 was a copy of the Olympus XZ-2. That red dot will be the difference.

Mmm I like the new Lumix LX100 as a MX-1 replacement. Different sensor category though..

Don't forget the difference in sensor size either. That plays more than a small roll in why one is desirable and one is just another compact, even more so than a red dot.

Umm... Call me stupid, but wasn't the Leica X2 released something like 2 years ago?

Yep. (yep, you're right, not yep, you're stupid ) The reviews at B&H date back to June of 2012. It pre-dates the MX-1 by about a year.

That makes me an idiot (I fell for a recent post with a pix), something I am not above being under the right circumstances. However, that makes the failure of the MX-1 even more of a disappointment; there was a template. Feel free to ignore or ridicule me at your pleasure.

Ridicule tends to be more entertaining for everyone, though.

Go for it.

My loins are girded.

With gusto, if you please.
