Short answer : no. Others will follow up with 'this f1.2 xx' or this 'telephoto star xxx' but the answer will still be : no.

BTW, isn't it nice/interesting to get publicity on an eBay ad like that?

I would want to bid on it if the price was still a bit below the reserve price just to say I bid on a high ticket item..lol!
I'm afraid to bid now since after I bid, it might reach the reserve price and nobody bids anymore. I'd be sooooo "$@&*#" up!
Image seem to be matched by the Pentax DA 15.
It would seem that they are just paying for the rarity and history of the lens.
Good luck to the buyer not the seller!
I would be afraid to have/own such a ridiculously expensive lens that might get fungus or haze.

It's neat looking, and highly valued by collectors, but in terms of actually taking pictures the Sigma 8-16mm is a better lens.

Definitely good advertising for sure.

It is a very cool lens, but the claim that it is the widest rectilinear lens ever made for 35mm is not quite true. You can buy the Voigtlander 12/5.6 in Leica M and LTM from Steve Gandy at Cameraquest. That lens holds the record.

Canon is rumored to be making an 11-24mm lens. And of course Sigma makes the 12-24mm, which isn't even that expensive.

The claim isn't necessarily that it is "the widest rectilinear lens ever made for 35mm"... the claim is its the widest "non-distorting" lens. While not exactly distortion-free, this sample really is impressive:

Nah, you'd be fine. I've had plenty of people bid on my items and then not pay, and eBay never seems too worried about it. Sellers aren't even allowed to leave negative feedback for bad buyers anymore.

Q: hi Barry would you consider a swapping it for a used Nikon d7000 and a 15year old vw golf with 200,000 km on it ? if not best of luck with it mike
A: Thanks, But I had something else in mind. Thanks for asking, Cheers, Barry
"I'll trade you my car for this lens." The sad thing is, Mike's car isn't even worth 10% of the current bid, still with two and a half days to go.

Absolutely. There's no other reason to chose this over, say, the Samyang 14mm, at 1% of the price if your plan is to actually use the thing. Distortion is rarely an issue, and even when it is, one click in post and it's gone. It's a wonderful lens, and two whole stops faster to boot. I have one, and it actually gets used because it's not the price of a new car. Distortion is fun, anyway.

Screen shot shows it's the "Holy Grial" for sale, so it sounds like a fake to me

But in the days of film photography, and when using it for video, low distortion would be a much bigger advantage.
