Pleasure in sharing knowledge

Last Sunday I received an unexpected visit from my brother & his wife. It's his birthday in a couple of weeks, and he decided he wants to enter the DSLR game. He hasn't done much with photography for years, other than use the camera in his phone, however after seeing the enjoyment I'm getting from photography after finally foraying into the digital sphere, he felt it time to give it a go.
His idea is to have family contribute to a new camera, as his birthday present. He wasn't sure if he should stick with Pentax, or try another brand. He has an old film Pentax, with two lenses (I can't remember what camera or lenses). Of course I suggested he buy a Pentax, explaining that he can use the old lenses on a new body.
It was a lovey experience, and although I don't have a vast knowledge of digital photography, it turns out I know more than he does, so was able to share some knowledge with him. I was surprised at what I know & understand, because I still feel like there's a lot more to learn.
I realise that my prior film experience can be carried over into digital, and told my brother that a lot of his film knowledge will continue to be utilised.
It will be enjoyable to watch him fall in love with photography again, and I am looking forward to seeing his results.
I think sharing knowledge is vital, even if only with someone close to you, as I have with my brother. Its one of the reasons why I like this forum, because of the vast knowledge bank contributed by the users.

I fully agree! Trying to get my friends to buy one, but to no avail. The Canon ads are too strong where I live

Canon & Nikon ads are what I see most. My brother did try a digital canon, I think, years ago, but wasn't happy with it. Maybe because he was used to working with his Pentax.
