Abuse of a DSLR body

I saw a girl in one of my classes today that carries around a Canon T3i body in her purse like a point and shoot. Cringing yet? She just throws it in there with no lens attached and no body cap, loose in her purse to use as a picture viewer. You can hear it bounce around with coins and keys and who knows how much lint. A small part of me died inside when I saw someone do this to a camera of any kind.

Agreed. I know there is a lot of dislike in forums for using cell phones for photography, but I feel this person would be far better suited to use one...

She has a mirror to apply make-up as well. Clever girl, I say.

Wow, no DSLR deserves that, even a cheap Canon. I'd hate to see what any picture looks like with it, if the poor thing can even take one.

She probably just shoots wide open with a Canon 50mm 1.2 so the lint doesn't show up

And with the cropped sensor, it makes her lips appear 1.5 time fuller. No botox necessary.

Amazing.....poor camera. She probably got it as a gift and doesn't appreciate it. I cant imagine lugging a DSLR body in her purse just to show pics. Wow, good thing she doesn't have a 1D or a 645. That would have a lot of weight to walk around with.

Even with my P&S, I would always keep it protected. As my wife tells me, my camera is like my baby, and I could never do that by just tossing it around or stuck in a purse, even in my car, without being in a camera bag.

Put an LCD cover on it and a body cap and a viewfinder cap and it might not be that big of a deal.
With Pentax Q she could use the mount shield lens and a simple LCD cover and save size.

That makes me cringe also! I'm pretty sure she didn't plunk down her money for the dslr, or she would be more particular about it's care. My first camera was a Brownie HawkEye, which I still have, and it still looks great. I had to earn the money before my mom would let me get it; believe me, I treasured it!

If she had a 1.2 and treats her camera like that, I'd gladly buy her a 50 1.8 and trade with her, then sell the 1.2 for some Pentax glass.
