PF Interviews Eric Hendrickson

Hey, everyone,

Eric has agreed to a Pentax Forums interview. The interview is going to be comprised largely of your questions for him. Please put your questions in this thread. If you see questions that you like, please just give them a 'like' rating.

There's no estimate yet on when the article will go live as some of the interview details are still be ironed out.

David

I'll start this thread off with some questions I've been mulling about.

- Do you take photos as well as repairing cameras?
- Are you training anyone to take over for you when you decide to retire?
- How has the camera repair industry changed over the last 46 years?
- What do you think of the way camera technology has changed?

- how many cameras do you work on a year?
- what is your favorite camera to work on or to use?
- how many years have you been repairing Pentax cameras?
- do you repair other brands or just Pentax?
- how has Ricoh been to work with and get parts from?
- is it easy to continue finding the parts you need?

What was the most challenging repair you ever did?
What repair / restoration are you the most proud of - makes you smile?

A former Pentax employee (I think) who has intimate knowledge of the older lenses and cameras and provides tune-up and repair service on the older equipment that otherwise would be dead or damaged by improper repairs.

Go To Home and read the About Us Page.

Eric is the premier repair expert on Pentax film cameras. PF members from as far away as Australia have sent him their treasured but elderly Pentaxes for his CLA - and expect to use them for another twenty years!!

What is the most expensive camera you have worked on?Gold LX? LX titan?
Would you consider enhacing some cameras/lenses? I would to have some of my stuff made of carbon fibre for instance.

What is your favorite lens to work on?
What is your favorite camera to work on?
(and why...)

What are the differences from your perspective in how the lenses are built between the various series (M42, K, M, A)?

What is the hardest lens to work on?

Start with a big THANK YOU from a happy customer and "You are forbidden to ever become sick, old or dying."
My question is: Do you do all the work yourself or do you have help? Are you passing the knowledge torch?

Thanks!

What is the strangest repair request you've seen? (ie: FA*300mm that was dropped in a lake, etc.)

1) How is your spares situation, are you getting short in any area?
2) Do you ever offer cameras for sale, and if so, where?

Before asking any questions I would like to thank Eric for his service and excellent work! He has serviced some of my film bodies and they work like new. Where would we be without Eric? I'll tell you. We'd be on this forum moaning and groaning that our Spotmatics over/under expose and that there's nothing we do can about it. Thankfully, this is not the case.

How does battery voltage affect the exposure meter in the Spotmatics?

What is it about the Electro Spotmatic series that makes them impossible to service? Could you still service the mechanical bits?

What is your favorite film camera and why? Favorite film? Favorite lens?

What is the most modern camera body you would work on?

Any ideas on who would be willing to machine replacement battery covers for Spotmatics?

Do you have any photos you could share from the past and present?

I think that's plenty right there considering all the questions that have already been asked. Thanks for putting the interview together!

A big thanks to Eric for recalibrating my almost 40 yr old K1000 (my parents purchased it new when it first came out and I inherited it.) and Spotmatic.

In addition to the great work on manual lenses, when are you going to jump into the SDM repair business?
