There is a lens on ebay I was interested in and when asked to see the rear element they posted a photo shown below. Not exactly sure if it is fungus or haze but it kinda turned away my interest. Anyone know what those markings on the glass might be? Thanks

Looks more like a reflection to me, but it could be anything. A second photo could potentially confirm/deny that.

I'll go with cleaning marks to. Does not look like any fungus I've seen before. Might be haze or oil also.

I'm going with a reflection,it appears to have a consistent pattern that is distorted by the glass?

The blades looked clean from another photo, but the owner just replied that it appears to be cloudy on the inside of the lens when they tried to wipe it off. They also said it looks like someone had tried to clean it before but didn't succeed. I think I'm going to pass on this one. Thanks everyone for the quick help

I'd say reflection as well. Note how the lines are running perpendicular at the edge of the lens. Cleaning marks would
most likely be in a circular pattern and run parallel to the edge of the lens. The faint haze around the light source
reflection looks like cleaning marks.

Link to the auction?

I'll guess someone took the lens apart, cleaned the rear element improperly, then put the lens back together, possibly with the rear element reversed.

I thought about that as a possibility too. The listing ended but it was an old Spiratone 400mm f6.3 T mount lens I was going to adapt to use with my K30. Here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321742473723?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Thanks I'll give that that look. The reason I was interested in the Spiratone is that I inherited one from my uncle that he took some amazing photos with, and I was possibly going to swap the rear elements to keep his lens "alive." It's a super light lens, and very simple in design which intrigues me. The lens just screws right apart without any tools at all!

there are lots of relatively simple yet good 400 mm lenses out there.

I have the vivitar, which i bought new in 1982 as an end of production line close out sale for $159 CDN. they sell usually for less than $50 today, and are an automatic stop down lens (so focusing is at full aperture.

i have not used mine in years, but i never part with anything, so it just sits. I dont really see the value in selling it. since it's inflation adjusted value is about 10x what i can get for it, but i also have a newish (bought in 2003) sigma APO 70-200/2.8 with 2x TC that is excellent, so i dont use the MF lens any more. perhaps i should
