Portrait lens. Which one? 30 short portrait lenses compared on APS-C. | Viktor's photo blog

A Comparison of 30 portrait lenses (70-105mm) on APS-C, including e.g. Samyang 85mm, Helios 40-2, Takumar SMC 85mm f1.8 and many others available for Pentax cameras via adapters.

For lens comparisions, it's cool to have this big number of lenses systematically evaluated by the same person.

He certainly liked the M 50mm f/1.4. I have the similar FA 50mm f/1.4. Maybe one day I'll get to use it on a FF body. I don't much like 50mm on APS-C.

I have an a6000, so I've spent quite a bit of time in the Sony forum. Mostly they talk about Minolta, Canon Fd and Takumar legacy lenses. I don't understand, why Takumar instead of Pentax K or M?

Nice article. The Tak certainly held up well amongst the lot. Final scores have most all of them clumped together
in the same range, (18-21), with only a couple outliers. I didn't notice any lens with a score of 17 or lower. It would
seem the ultimate deciding factor is character. Do you prefer warmth? Or glow? Or bokeh? No real bad choices
among the lot, only differences in style. Like having to choose between a Ferrari, Aston or Porsche.

On thing is for certain, that guy has serious GAS!
