It's really not easy to see it, even in places like St-Raymond, the city fills the sky with background light. The best spot I've seen is in the Portneuf Reserve near Riviere-à-Pierre, and at l'Étape towards Saguenay

Still, I'm not very good at photographing it.

Here's my last milky way shot for me this season. Full moon didn't help, it's the light coming from the left ...

Carl, if you shot in RAW, you can probably bring out much more from that image. It's still pretty good as it is.

Yes this was shot RAW. It's actually a merge of two shots. The first one for the sky for 80 sec., F2.8, ISO 800 using O-GPS-1 and the second one for the forgeround at 20 sec., F4, ISO 800, with refocusing between the shots.

I'm not sure this could be improved much more in PP since the sky is already heavily pushed in PP. The background light from the moon is practically at the level as the light from the milky way (they're both on the same spot on the curves). It's very difficult to boost the milky way without also increasing the background, or decreasing the background without making the milky way dissapears... Or, at least, making these adjustments look natural.

A Milky Way shot from last night. The moon was rising, so a bit more background glow to contend with than I would have liked. Pentax K5, Samyang 14mm f2.8, ISO 1600, 60 sec exposure using Astrotacer.

Thanks. We get to keep seeing the mwg into probably late nov., which is a good thing because the summer and early fall is usually foggy or cloudy. So later fall is actually a better time to capture the thing than earlier. I could have boosted E/V a bit more, but I think it turned out well. ISO 1600 gives a bit less grain, and contrary to the 500 rule you do get star trails starting at the 30s mark (not as noticeable though) 25s is right where the stars start deforming using the 10mm, but you have to really zoom the image to see it. I can't wait for the park to shut off the lights for the season, but that happens in late Nov.
