Good day for macro practice- small scale makes it much easier to make the light whatever you like.

Or just a good day to go out and not concentrate on photography. It's ok to do this occasionally

I'm giving the monochrome suggestion a try... I've never done this before; I just figured out setting the monochrome in camera doesn't do anything if you're shooting raw. hahah

I pulled into Picasa adjusted the color to get this:

She's a very willing test subject!

Thanks!
I'll give credit where credit is due > The K-3ii and DA35ltd make for one killer combination.

I'm off to Assateague to see if a Bald Eagle will pose for me like this!

You may want to take something a bit longer than the 35mm. ;~)

Are you going to try part two of the 'monochrome' suggestion?

P.S. The sun came out here and I'm going out with my new-to-me 35/2.8 Macro Limited to see what it can see. Then I'm going to feast on cauliflower soup and French bread (and likely some adult beverages) with mrs.
monochrome.

The man of March he sees the Spring and wonders what the year will bring, and hopes for better weather.

I shoot people in or out, weather does not bother me unless it is raining.

I was so excited on my way home last night, I planned to get up before sunrise, drive out to my favorite spot on Assateague and setup my gear for a few hours hiking around...
I laid out my rocket blower, some microfiber cloths, 2 D-Li90 chargers and got to work.
Sensor clean ready to read, glass polished ready to see, 3 batteries charged and ready to go, 2 SD cards formatted and ready to store. I go to bed early, checking the weather reports right before laying down. (Mostly sunny, low 30s).

I wake up at 5:30am

24 degrees and overcast. Its just grey and miserable outside.
Looks like it's about to rain and there is not a speck of light pulling through those hazy clouds.

It was so demotivating that I literally just made a pot of coffee and started going through the Photos section on this forum.
Wishing it was 60 degrees and sunny...
I'll likely still head out in a bit, but the rush and anticipation was immediately wiped from me the second I looked outside.

Not to menton I feel like the wildlife agrees with me here. When it's a nice warming morning sun peaking over the horizon, the finches are fluttering, the herons are feeding, the osprey are dive bombing, the eagles are preying. When it's like today, I feel like the every creature big and little just goes into hiding...

What do you do on days like this?
Do you just go out and shoot anyways?

Cheers
-Logan
My wife and I joke that the sunny perfect days there's no wildlife to photograph. The cruddy low-contrast days are when the kingfisher perches 8 feet from you and starts preening...and I didn't bother bringing the camera.

I'll bring the camera usually on walkies regardless. Even if the pictures aren't great I can still check the diving duck flock for unusual members.

If it is that really dark kind of overcast, or if it is wet and a danger to non-weather-proof equipment, that is frustrating. If not that dark, or wet, well then it can be a test and quest for what can be photographed in those conditions, possibly with approaches not explored before. Imagine if someone used to employing flash for indoor photography, had to suddenly make do with a box of candles?

Your initial downheartedness reminded me of that old definition for a FISH -- an animal that goes on vacation around the same time most fishermen do.
