I hope your camera is repaired and back to you in good time so you and the "birdies of the yard" can have an exhilarating fresh air shoot.

Is this only any issue for those using some sort of auto exposure mode?
Nope, once the aperture block is fully broken, only screw mount (M42) lenses with the adapter will work properly.

How many exposures had you snapped in total before the failure? I'm only around 3K right now, but I'd rather not fret over my camera during my trip to Spain in May...

I'm interested in this too. I've had a K30 for nearly 3 years (approx. 3,000 exposures) and a K50 with about 1,000 and another K50 on the way with around 700. None of them have had any problems so I'm curious whether it affects certain production runs or if it's completely random in terms of time and numbers of exposures.

FWIW I love the K30 and K50.

When my K-30 went down, I'd had it for about three years and about 33,000 accutations on it.

I'm sitting just under 3200 exposures and 10 months into ownership. Fingers crossed I've got at least another two years and 20k+ actuations!

The problem is with the aperture controller. The symptoms are actual apertures in the iris that are wider or narrower than the value set by the exposure system. This happens regardless of the exposure mode. It would be hard to say whether your camera will have a problem.

Can I dislike the stark reality of that post? Is there a button for that?

Mine started around 5k... and I'm sending it in now with exactly 8k.

Don't brag too much, I was doing that and then mine failed...

I'm in Canada so no Precision
Mine failed about 6 months after purchase; I sent to Precision and it was back in my hands in a week, repaired and functioning perfectly.

7500 on my K30 with no problems. It was a factory refurb with 2700 on it when I got it, so perhaps it already has an upgraded aperture controller in it? I put about 5-6K on my first K30 which I sold after I first heard about the aperture control problem. It worked fine but after I sold it what did I do? Bought another K30! I missed it too much! I've been using a K30 for the last 3 years and I still don't find it outdated. The only camera I will be replacing it with when it dies will be the K-1. Everyone needs to remember that 10 years ago $200-300 got you a rather poor point and shoot camera, which is what a used to new K30/K50 costs today.

Fifty billion angry Pentax users across the galaxy will be wanting to know how you managed that.
