I don't think you can post photos from your desktop... Instagram is a mobile app that allows you to view on desktop through browser, but that's about it.
The best way to load images in my opinion is using Dropbox.
My wife and I split the 1TB account upgrade, I think it's $99 a year?
Once I upload my full-res image to DropBox, I can go into my phone and select the image through Instagram.
The great thing about DropBox is the desktop application. It creates a file folder structure on your computer so you can just drag and drop images/files to the "DropBox" folder on your computer. Just as easy as moving files around in Windows Explorer, ex: "Downloads" to "MyDocuments"

This does work, however I've found many times my file sizes are MUCH larger than the standard 10 MB limit for emails.
And my phone fills up fast (64 GB).
DropBox is a great way to store photos and seamlessly share between devices.
I figure $99 a year is well worth it!
That's 2 less stops at the coffee shop each month. Which is probably good for me anyways!
