This is TOTALLY how you're supposed to hold a camera!

Am I right, guys?

I actually saw a photo somewhere, was it here? of a wedding photographer holding her camera by the top of the flash only. At least this guy was just modeling clothes!

No. But the guy has strong hands yikes - motor drive and all and using just a couple of fingers to hold it up. I bet he was happy when the photographer said they got the shot!

EDIT: Tripod in the photo was missed. So the guy is just clueless not the strongest guy in the room and clueless.

You can hold the camera any way you want as long as you're not taking pictures.

Doesn't surprise me. Nikon shooters can do most anything.......but Canon shooters claim they are better, their cameras can hold themselves in a bind.

Okay, seriously! In that ad photo, the camera is mounted vertically on a tripod, just out of the shot to the left. You can see part of the tripod leg visible on the left edge of the frame. Sorry, I know I'm not contributing to the fun, but just in case someone gets the idea to try that with their brand new K-1 with grip and DA* 55mm 1.4.

Yeah, now I can see the tripod etc, it looks like he's adjusting the focus, but even then it looks like his eye is fixated on the back of the pentaprism rather than the eyepiece.

Indeed. And it just so happens that all the three way heads I have would tilt in that direction for portrait orientation. The model is not holding the camera at all - just checking the focus.

Forget the camera check out that nice looking jacket in the second photo with a belt & epaulettes, I used to have one like that in the 70's in brown corduroy!

With all due respect - despite the tripod (which I missed) this is not how to manage a camera. I would use my left hand to focus and my right would be ready to depress the shutter release or adjust shutter speeds. I can't imagine holding a camera this way even with a tripod.

I would never have admitted to that... even if I did have one, which I didn't.
