I shot almost the same exact gap. When I had my K10d, it was a bit more problematic, but some of that was due to learning a dSLR and being lazy about making my feet work, especially when shooting landscapes on canyon rims, etc. More recently with my K5 and now K3, I can care less about the gap. I can crop my image and get something in between if I need to. Actually, I've gotten so comfortable with the gap that I've taken to shooting only primes with the K3.

I have finally upgraded to the Sigma 17-50 and 70-200 this summer.

Like others have said, the gap can be taken up by a few steps forward or backwards.
I have both lenses hanging off of my BlackRapid Double strap with the K7 and K20 bodies.

Both lenses are a bit heavy when they are hanging off me at the same time.

I really like the results I have gotten from both lenses so far and do not regret the purchase at all.
Good Luck!

I too have no lenses between 50 and 70. At both those focal length I am covered with both a prime and a zoom but nothing in between. My wife has nothing between 45 and 70 so cannot even borrow from her. Never noticed a problem not having focal lens between 50 and 70.

My original kit was the 18-55 kit lens and a Sigma 70-300 back with my K10D. I considered the 17-50 but eventually going with a 17-70 due to it's longer reach. For what it's worth in this discussion......After looking through my catalog, I rarely use any focal length between 50-70mm but I shoot a LOT of 70mm shots and I crop many of those. Since I shoot 70mm a lot, it made good sense for me to have a 17-70 as a walk around. I wouldn't really worry much about the 50-70 range. The Sigma is a very good lens and your camera sensors have plenty of resolution giving you some cropping room.

I used to have problems with the gap when I was using the k10d with two similar lenses.

Now I use primes only and every lens is at least 20 mm from the next. With a k3, I can crop a little and use my feet a lot.

I still rarely use a zoom, but only to avoid Any lens switching, which effective leaves a gap at each end... Cropping and moving still work.

Stitching panoramas can help when the wide end is problematic.
