What's so ground breaking in 5D IV?
Honestly curious about what's special about the mark IV, myself.

Same here...don't see why Mark VI costs so much more than its predecessor...maybe the 4K and all the little things added up for the extra thousand.
Even K-1 with lens bundle is hundreds of dollar less...

That's our job.

SO you prefer to believe that only favorable reviews should be mentioned here???

My only commentary is that I find Popular Photography about the worst of all the photo mags I to which I have subscribed. The subscription was cancelled for other magazines that have much stronger content.

no, not at all. i just think it's curious how a bunch of people who are obviously sold on the camera (or better yet already have one) are so fascinated by what other people think about it. so they make posts defending the camera when it gets a poor review, or applauding the reviewer when they say something nice about it.

just an observation, as i said.

Maybe that's why fan-based echo chambers like any brand specific photo forum exists? It's the nature of any brand-loyalty.

I like the brand, but I wouldn't consider myself a "fan" I do consider myself a reality-based person... there are good things and bad things to each.
When I first got The K10 when it came out the only thing that made it stand out was in body shake reduction. If all the brands had that, it would have been a toss up on which system I would have today. Once I invested in a Pentax system I didn't change course do to the $$ cost of changing over
Also, the support factor of this forums over the past 10+ years certainly makes staying with Pentax easier

My experience with Pentax is way more limited as I only switched 2-3 months ago. I previously shot with Olympus mft body. I don't really think I'm a fan yet either, my experience is too limited, I haven't experienced other sides of the system as a whole such as customer support, repairs, flashes, reliability etc. But, while I do understand that K-1 is not a perfect body, I still think that I made a right choice buying it instead of d750/d800/d800E/d810 (if I stretched my budget), or any 5D body, at least for me personally.

when you look at the K1 as a whole, having a 5 year old sensor with a few extra perks (lights near the camera mounts, astro tracer etc) it isn't ground breaking
but to a Pentaxian they are
maybe this is how they kept the price down.

Hmm. Are you sure there isn't an element of inference added to your observation? Criticism of a reviewer's methodology, let alone their silence on salient facts, is not necessarily just defending a brand or product. In any event, I don't think it's a bit curious that people tend to defend their choices: that's just human nature, and nothing to be wondered about.

It would be an odd voluntary group of people who didn't have an element of this amongst them. However, the main purpose of this particular forum, as both stated by the owner and practised by most members, is to provide a resource to assist users of Pentax photographic equipment, not to act as a cheer squad for the brand, even if it seems that way at times.

I believe it was the Nikon D800, now the D810. Please correct me if I am mistaken

Canon makes their own sensors, I think. Sony makes everyone else's, probably.
