Excellent Series Found on Netflix.

Greetings to all,

I wanted to share with everyone a wonderful series on photography that I have found on Netflix. It is entitled, "Tales by Light." I could go on and on about it, but rather than do that I would highly recommend just going there if you have Netflix. Thanks for reading and do please enjoy the series. I did receive prior authorization to post this information here in this section.

Rgds,

Tony

Totally agree! I'm half way through.

Also while you at it "Chasing Ice" is well worth a watch. Great photography. Also for any one who seriously thinks that climate change is not happening - you should watch this! There is no question.

My brother turned me on to Tales of Light. It is amazing, especially some of the under water whale sequences. And the aerials are equally amazing. My only criticism, admittedly a minor one, is that watching it in 4K the post sharpening on the some of the scenes is a bit heavy handed. Some scenes are amazingly sharp, while others are a bit soft. Obviously a mix of 1080 and 2160 sequences.

Yeah, Canon here in Australia are responsible. Series Two has already been made.

Interesting. I have tried to watch this series and found it was a bit boring and that it lacked any technical depth. It was pretty but did not talk about the photography enough nor talk about the light much.

I watched it (thanks for sharing!) and did enjoy the photography, scenery, and views into nature and remote people/places. My wife tuned in for the last episode in Papua New Guinea and thought it was interesting, too.

@UncleVanya's right, though. I thought it was too focused on being an ad campaign for Canon gear. In each episode the photographer made some reference to how "the technology" enabled them to get those shots. Many glamour shots of long Canon glass, if you like gear porn.

I reckon the time they talk about the philosophy of what they do could be halved. Some seem to be reading lofty but semi-banal sentences written for them.

Trailers are here: https://www.canon.com.au/explore/tales-by-light

I felt like it was a Canon commercial masquerading as a documentary.

The episode in Alaska gave me pause... I don't think I'd ever want to be that close to hungry brown bears without a vehicle, bear spray, and/or a large bore rifle!

I don't think Canon funded it out of benevolence.

I knew there was malevolence at play here

Regarding the bears... my theory: they were already feeding and had no need to expend more energy or take risks to attack the crew. Hopefully we have a bear expert that can shed some light on this.

'Course we don't know what happened behind the scenes.

@skierd, big bore Canon glass is perhaps more intimidating! lol

There is a saying: " A fed bear is a teddy bear." If they have their belly full, they can be completely benign. But if they are hungry...

We saw plenty of territorial behaviour going on though.

There may have been a lot of precautions by the film crew that we didn't see - not very exciting viewing.
