Who's your favourite Photographer?

Selfish reason - I want to discover other published photographers who might give me new inspiration but interesting as well

What I'm looking for is the photographers whose books have most inspired you, helped you create your style and taught you most (by looking at their work, NOT teaching books).

My all time favourite has to be the South African Obie Oberholzer, who really helped me free up my vision and understand what it means to make a photograph.

The Brit Charlie Waite -total chalk and cheese to Oberholzer taught me to refine composition and to be patient.

Some of the old guys like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston played their part in helping me raise my standards

I also really like Steve McCurry (who doesn't?), some of Don McCullin, and Jimmy Nelson - Before They Pass Away is a wonderful book

And probably others who I've forgotten along the way.

Who are your favourites?

My favourite photographer by far - and someone who turned me on to a fascination with banal, sparse, everyday scenes - is Stephen Shore. I recommend his book "Uncommon Places". I've lost count of how many times I've sat and looked through this book. His work was initially criticised by some for its banality, and it certainly won't be to everyone's taste, but I love it.

Roger Ballen is another photographer whose work stirs me - though not always in a nice way

thanks Mike - I love observational photography, and the brief look so far shows a lot of sense of place and time - surprisingly difficult things to capture.

Thanks - yes, indeed - I'm not over familiar with his work, but I very much like what I've seen

Bill Brandt, especially the early and mid years.

A few favourites.

So you don't gain anything from looking at the work of others? You don't develop new ideas, find new inspiration, learn compositional techniques? You've never found a photographer whose work amazes you and makes you wish you could achieve what they do? I'm envious... I would love to be that good!!

Not what I said. There are a lot of great photographers to be inspired by. It's just that I am my own favourite one.

Right... Given the OP's question and the context of it, then, are there any photographers you like that you think would be worthy of his review?

Following.

Not a specific name, but I do admire photographers who can make art of their own street, neighborhood, city etc. The normal everyday stuff.

In terms of education, specifically processing the photos, landscape photographer Jimmy Mcintyre did more for me than anyone else so far
