Originally posted by UncleVanya I wouldn't characterize it as a ban. I would say that it seems in line with how Facebook has severely curtailed the visibility of business accounts in people's feeds. My guess is this is a precursor to some new revenue generation mechanism by instagram that targets business users and reaching non-followers.
Facebook recently tried to get us to pay 30$ a month for a business account. However we are a really small business, so it didn't make any sense for us. They offered her a free solution, where we get a business page linked to her personal page. We were reported, probably by one of the local guiding businesses known for their completely unscrupulous practices including deliberately trying to pretend they are a competing business, if someone mistakenly phones them and asks for their competitor, and charging ridiculous amounts of money for helping stranded travellers they come across on routine runs. 515 "friends" and one complaint and Facebook takes us down.
But it forced us to redo a completely out of date page, and in the end isn't costing us any money. Facebook explains how to set up an account suited to our needs, and verified the account, so that we were following the rules and still got our free page.

For 3$ we can have access to some service which will put us in touch with 40,000 local people. Which is really funny because our locality, South Algonquin Township only has 2,000 people. You could include nearby towns of up to 50 miles (80 km away, and you still wouldn't have 40,000 people. And our business is almost completely Europeans. We've never had a request from a local. Sometimes even $3 is a bad deal.
