Las Vegas Pentax Flashes?

Any clue on where I might be able to source two Pentax flashes before 1pm tomorrow (Saturday April 1) in Las Vegas?
540FGZ or 360FGZ?

Thank goodness the K1 has a sync port, so as a worst case scenario, I *will* have a solution tomorrow...whatever speed light/strobe I manage to buy tomorrow.

I swear, so many moving parts to my workflow.
As I was going through my checklist before packing and getting to this gig, I was interrupted, and that part of my checklist was lost in the distraction.

It hit me, as I was checking in at the Hotel and I was going over things for tomorrow.
Photoshoot at 5pm, video/cinema the rest of the week...then I imagined my 540's...sitting in my office back in San Fran.

Then after a web search...realizing there is NO PENTAX IN LAS VEGAS!!!!!

I didn't see any Pentax flashes on the Fry's web site, but maybe do a more thorough check than I did.

Nope. No love for Pentax on Fry's.

If anyone in Las Vegas wants to loan me two FGZ flashes for a few hours tomorrow...I will pay.

There was a hole-in-the-wall shop just north of the MGM and across from New York New York where I got my first glimpse of the K-01 a few years back. Google street view shows it's still open, but I don't see any Pentax gear in the limited view. Camera Zone, 3767 S Las Vegas Blvd.
And this place looks like it might have something generic or could give you the lay of the land:B&C Camera, 4511 W. Sahara Ave

The other thing about B&C is that they offer rental gear, so you might not have to buy something you don't want long term.

I'm headed over to B&C in the morning. I'll figure something out.
Going to bed. Thanks everyone.

Thanks Boris! Nice talking to you! Next time, yes, you can definitely come along for the ride!
I went with a simple radio slave setup with two Sony compatible flashes.
I don't have any Sony flashes for my backup A6500, so for around $300 they beef up my Sony kit.

I had no problem giving some retail some business. Decent prices and service over at B&C in Vegas!

The K1 works perfectly with a radio flash setup, and the Sony flashes in manual mode.

1/16th power, on the flashes, F4 at 200ISO with X selected, my 24-70 /F2.8 and 1/200th shutter, and I'm good to go for the photography that was tacked on my cinema shoot.

A quick group shot and candid shots after a once a year meeting.

Again, if you are a cinematographer, the expectation is photography is a given competency.

Next time I will make sure my flash bag with all the gear are not left on my desk!

It's tough being a human that has an ageing mind!

Hi Lauren,

I was there a few days ago. I visited them last year and told them if they bring the K1, I will buy it from them. As you noticed, there is no Pentax presence in the shop. B&C Camera is perhaps the coolest retail store I have seen in a long time. It is a shame they cannot support Pentax. Did you notice the Leica section? Leica must be paying the big bucks to have a good section of the store to themselves. I guess we have a lot more money in Vegas than I thought!!!

BTW, After the video shoot with the Sony 6000, I decided to buy some Panasonic gear for my 4K shoots. I got some basic gear. It ended up costing me a lot less than a A6500 setup. I'll test it and share the results with you. I am curious about your take on the results. Will let you know.

Good luck with your shoot. If you are in a jam, I am a phone call away.

Cheers,
Boris

Here is the shot...K1 DFA 24-70 f/2.8

I never saw the flashes or radio triggers I used today, before today.
Two Promaster "Sony" flashes about 45 degrees and off to the side, firing with wireless radio triggers.
Main flash, and one in slave mode.

Bought the gear around 10am, back at hotel, read the manuals, set them in manual mode (1/8 power) and got this image at around 4pm.

Once again, I had a minute or two to get this, as their meeting was breaking up.
No pressure, eh?
Just a normal day as far as my "customers" knew.

Some harsh shadows, sure, but not too shabby given that I sourced the flash gear this morning and HAD to get this shot this afternoon.
Now back to cinematography for the rest of the week.

Thanks Boris for offering to help!

*NEVER again leave my normal flash gear sitting on my desk.
