MIJ Pentax K1000 SE Black Diamond Grip and Original 55mm f/2 Value

I have a Non-SE-engraved K1000 SE in the black rubber, MIJ body, with its 55mm f/2 lens. Exceptional condition. I've been mulling over selling it for a long time and decided that it would be better in a collector's hands. I haven't seen one ofthse come up for auction in a LONG time and could find no historic data on eBay for these. Does anyone know of any reliable value approximation for these?

I am not a K1000 expert so cannot help but I am intrigued..... If it is not engraved "SE" , how do you know it is an "SE" ?

Interestingly, I have some standard K1000 bodies here that have the 20-3200 ISO range, which the SE also has.

I just bought one on shopgoodwill last month. It has a split screen and diamond grip, but no engraved SE. But it didn't have a K 55/2, it had a M 50/2. But it's certainly not a "first edition", the serial seems to correspond to the mid-80's and there is no indication of where it was made, so it is probably from Hong Kong. Not an SE? Who cares, it's still a custom K1000 and therefore rarer than a factory model...

So mine did not come from eBay. Mine came from a private sale. The previous owner had bought it from a camera shop that sold the SE cameras. Unfortunately, I did not keep the shop receipt since it was faded and tearing on the fold lines.

I managed to pick one of these up too. They are quite uncommon to rare but they do circulate. None that I have seen have the SE engraved on it. Mine has no SE sticker either (long gone) but everything else about it is SE.

Mine has a sticker on the bottom with "Assembled in Hong Kong" indicating it was the flat packed version sent to Hong Kong for assembly (but not made in Hong Kong like the latter versions).

I suspect it is the real thing but it might have been a small run early in the production of K1000's. I feel it is collectable but it would be good to get Pentax to confirm its pedigree

I just picked one of these up randomly on an internet website selling vintage items. I love it! I removed the lame SE sticker. Maybe I should not have? I plan on actually using this camera and a sticker would never last with my abuse. LOL. it's a pretty little camera!

what is the serial number of yours? those of us who have them should create a list then maybe the picture will become clearer?

It's in the Serial # Database...

No. 7796936 - Pentax K1000 Serial Numbers - Pentax Serial Number Database - PentaxForums.com

It's quite obvious that it's not a K1000 SE, just a K1000 with custom leatherette and split focusing screen...

Fun historical Forum fact:

In the early days of PF @Ole collected Members’s K1000 Serials and identifying characteristics in a spreadsheet. Eventually maintaining the spreadsheet became a chore, so a postable Database for K1000’s was added to the Forum. That was so well received that it became the Serial Number Database, which everyone should use as a remote information storage file for insurane purposes.

The old spreadsheet is attached to this post in case you're interested. The number to the left is the production run best we could determine.

I posted a thread here on PF somewhere long ago , but under my old username about this camera.
I sold mine on ebay for $100 or $200 if I remember correctly. I believe it had the extra ISO speed or something like that.
When in high school Photography class in 1980 or so , it was the only K1000 a dealer in NY had left at the moment. I bought it thinking I got something different than everyone else in my class.....and I did.
