Agreed - lenses are fun, but we don't need so many.
There's another element in the mix here, too - specialisation. Lots of us (and I certainly fall into this trap) photograph anything and everything, without concentrating on a particular type of shot. Again, it's fun, but it limits progress by spreading us too thinly. I've picked up a wide range of skills and learned many techniques, but all at a relatively basic level. I'm not particularly good at
any of them
