The moment I saw this picture, it screamed at me: Tom Roberts

Tom Roberts - Wikipedia

I can well see him having painted something like this.

Yes, it could easily be one of his.

Frederick McCubbin had a few paintings with males seated in a similar pose ("The pioneer" and "Down on his luck" are a couple).

Precisely, I forgot about Fredrick.

Now I hear two screams coming off this picture.

Not feeble at all. It could easily have been posed with a painting in mind. After all, you wouldn't be just wandering through the bush with your plate glass set up hoping for a chance encounter like this. After seeing "Fake or Fortune" on the Tom Roberts painting last week, it makes me wonder if there could be an artist's sketch book at the National Gallery with something like this. They may be interested.

Well, an unexpected update to this thread.

Yesterday I visited the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne and as I was leaving I saw a sign on the wall about Bosistos, they are sponsors of the gardens.

One sign included this image.

As you can see, it's a print from this plate. Pity it's the broken one.

Anyway, we can now say that the distillery photos were taken at Inglewood.

Hi Craig

Great discovery
At about 20 secs in the photo of the eucalyptus oil distillery looks the same as your plate but says it is at Inglewood distillery ?
I know the "bush " can look the same anywhere , it was just that plate that looked the same as yours

It was, see post #37 above. That video has 4 or 5 shots I have the negatives for.

So it was the Jones Brothers Distillery, Inglewood, VIC (near Bendigo) circa 1920.
