Glass Plate Negatives (Australian)

After my Father died I found 3 sets of glass plate negatives.

They are a bit of a mystery as they do not seem to relate to my family in any way nor do they seem to relate to each other except they seem to be set in the late 1800s or early 1900s..

So I thought I would share them.

Set 1, 2 images on 4x5 plates.

1/ Mining camp (Gold?).

2/ Boat pulling away from shore. At a guess a 'sidewheeler' paddle boat, perhaps around Sydney.

Interesting pics. The things our fathers could have told us while we still had them! The second shot (in set 1) gives me a "Sydney" feeling and I would not be surprised if one or two of those houses still existed. Maybe it will ring a bell with someone who spends their time cruising the harbor. The Trove site could be the way to go.

My first thought was the north side of Sydney Harbour also. To the OP - fascinating photos and please consider putting them on Trove!

Groups 4 and 5, People and Saw Mill.

1/ Well to do Family Group.

2/ Copying a portrait. Our only location clue, Emerald? Hill? , VIC?

3/ Saw Mill?

---------- Post added 01-17-18 at 12:42 PM ----------

Well, a little deeper digging shows that the Mill (Group 1) is almost certainly Eadies Mill, Jacksons Creek, Sunbury

Fabulous, all of them. What a treasure. Set 3 looks to me like somewhere west of Melbourne. The bluestone construction and the shape of the hills are suggestive.

Surely someone will recognise the last scene in "Groups 4 and 5".

I think that's a good guess.

Foundations are still there, just off Harker St., according to Google Earth.

Will our digital photo's be able to be seen ( read ) in another 100 yrs ?

At least a physical media has a chance

Dave, it's obvious that we need a digital glass plate printer.

And strangely, until your post it hadn't actually clicked with me that these were over 100 years old.

The last one in set 3 looks like a saw mill and I would say east of Melbourne. Dandenongs? There appear to be tree ferns in the scrub at the left which suggests a wet forest area. Emerald fits with that area.
