Asahi Pentax: Go Big Or Go Home

Short back story to help some understand my post:

Asahi Pentax did some tv commercials in Japan back in the 1960's with the Asahi Pentax Camera girl.

Artist Tom Mayer paid homage to that commercial by designing this fantastic illustration. "Honda N600 Rally Kei Car With Japanese 60's Asahi Pentax Commercial Girl" Wall Tapestries by Tom Mayer | Redbubble

You can get it put on many different items, as for me I went with a t-shirt first, then went BIG and used it to cover my projector screen when not in use. Something different than the white screen on the wall. I built my home theater screen years ago, and its around 116" diagonal, 16x9 ratio. The large wall tapestry was the perfect size for me to build a lightweight screen to mount it on, and then cover the projector screen with it. Final dimensions are 101"x 78"! It looks fantastic in person. I am not affiliated with Tom or any of the sites that sell his products.....super cool of him to come up with the idea, as the illustration captures the car details and girl down to the smallest details that are found in the old tv commercial.

Are you ready to go BIG or go home?

She was ahead of her time. Is there a Japanese word for selfie?

In this one she practiced her nude selfie, using her Spotmatic
That scene starts at :52 seconds in.
There are three commercials in this one.

I put it in news since it was a new Pentax product which I thought was news. I would never have thought to put it here.

I want all those cars in that video. The Toyota GT, Mazda Cosmo, Datsun Fairlady Z, & her little rally car. I want them all!

More innocent times - and all the better for it - where is that sense of fun now?

It's hard to believe that Pentax used to advertise its cameras.

Thanks for sharing this. What a fun ad. Very effective association of the Spotmatic with that gutsy, well-traveled little rally car vs all the other marques on the road.

I just have a 1995 Eunos Roadster (Miata) sitting in my driveway. Need more Japanese classics.
