Very true!
And just as true is that being there at the right time can't replace pixelshift. Both the scene and the gear are essential prerequisites for a great image.
There's a lot of things in photography that are very rarely needed such as 1/8000 shutter speed, f/1.4 aperture, ISO 51200, or pixelshift. But when they are needed, they make a big difference.
To me, almost all landscapes images look better in higher resolution. I like to see every snowflake, every hair on every leaf, every grain in every rock, etc. It's not that low res is bad but higher res is better.
