The three princesses - in China!

So my current job is teaching English online to Chinese students. I live in Thailand these days so it keeps me in buttons and bows , as it were.

So I was having a discussion with a student about photography. Nothing unusual, it happens almost daily. Most are little unsure about Pentax (it has different name there anyway), but I had conversation yesterday and when I translated Pentax for him, he said ‘ooooooh....three princess. Very famous ‘.

It made my day for whatever reason.

I just thought i’d Share a nice story.

Yes, it's true. There three princesses are too noble to get married with, for poor guys like me...

Yes, that was my point! He knew the focal lengths and f-stops of each lens. I was blown away!!!

AND he knew they were called the three princesses.

Wow... even I could not do that without checking reference material, but I guess I'm not much of a gear head, but more of an old school photographer.

I don't think he was as aware of more 'modern' Pentax gear. He just knew about those old primes.

It means "yawn" in Chinese!

Just joking. JOKING...OK????

It's the name they have for Pentax in China. I have no idea why it isn't "Pentax".

That joke's getting a bit lame Poit.
I'll have to ask one of my Chinese friends what the two characters mean.

Actually I have another student who is a graphic designer. Her school uses Canon 5D's (mk whatever, I don't know).

Anyway, I sent her some pictures of my K-3. She's done some research and is genuinely interested in getting one for herself.

So, I might just have done my little bit for Pentax China. Royalties can be sent via Paypal....lol

Use Google translate Mark. I use it all the time to help with my teaching.

I assume this thread has become culturally insensitive, too controversial, and will be closed forthwith.

I tried Google translate, but we'll see what my Chinese friend says.

No, can't see a reason to close the thread. Very interesting the reference to "three princesses" and all.
