If Pentax disappears, what would it be for you?

If Pentax one days decides to disappear, which brand would you realistically switch to?

I am going to say Sony. I've been eyeing Sony for the past year. I've just pre-ordered a A7iii from B&H and I cannot be any happier even though I haven't even held or played with it yet.

My thoughts exactly.

i would probably get one or two K3 bodies and stay as long as possible with my current kit wich is pretty much complete (16-50/2.8; 55/1.4; 70-200/2.8)

I don't think this unlikely event would impact me at all. I have other brands (film & digital), but I still have room to upgrade in the existing Pentax range if I wanted to.

The one thing that I might look at anyway is mirrorless (Fuji?) - a gap in the current Pentax lineup (IMHO). Even that wouldn't stop me using my Pentax gear though. Its all horses for courses.

I think that by the time my Pentaxes die I will be happy with what my phone offers!

OP, I suppose it would make sense to keep an option of remaining a Pentax user (for good).
For me, I see no reason to switch to any brand... given that it will even be enticing for people to pick up cheap premium lenses and cameras.

I voted 'other' as I would be joining the scrum for used K-1's and K-3's, but this wasn't on your list:P.

If all Pentax equipment magically disappeared off the planet overnight (does any insurance cover magical disappearances?), I'd be sad. And unsure. Olympus looks like a nice and tidy system. However, I've fancied the Canon MP-E 65mm for some time, so if I had to re-buy a camera system it might be based around the availability of this one lens and I'd assume the rest would work itself out.

I'd buy another K-1 (already planning on doing so) and use them for as long as possible. I'm too heavily invested not to at least try with all the lenses I have.
After that, it would depend on the market and who's left.
In the end I'd probably go mirrorless to retain the ability to use my Pentax glass.

A pure hypothetical that has no useful result.

I too will stay with Pentax. I have stayed with Hasselblad and never even started with them much before they discontinued production of the V system.

If I was to outlive my Pentax digital gear I would buy a bridge or compact camera or something like that as by then I should be close to 80 or 90 years old.

Good thinking. I think I would take a similar route.

Why switch? At my age there will be used bodies available longer than I will be.

will sell all lenses without aperture lenses and keep those with aperture ring. Go Sony.

But hope they continue to survive.

I think, for digital cameras, Pentax 645z, Ricoh GR, will always have a place in photography world.

I almost wrote 'me too', but then thought I probably shouldn't. What I mean to say is, yup, I agree. Hardly much need to change - there'll be Pentax gear out there for years to come ...Quite happy with what Ricoh are doing ...
