Then there are the sparrows that aren't called sparrows...
Eastern Towhee
Dark-eyed Junco
Etc...
I have a love/hate feeling toward sparrows.
Love: Great pictures of all of these North American native sparrows (Passerellidae). I welcome all of these to my back yard with all they can eat sunflower seeds and Nyjer (thistle) seeds. Nothing like a warm spring morning sitting out on my patio, having my morning coffee and the eastern Towhee serenading me with his drink your teaaaaa! song. Now the dark eyed juncos and white throated sparrows are busy at my feeders and will soon depart, They delighted us all fall and winter and will soon be gone with mixed feelings. We will miss them but their departure means the end of winter to be followed by the arrival of the chipping, song, and fox sparrows along with the eastern towhees.
Hate: The invasive House sparrow, fortunately I do not get many of them and my bluebirds can nest in peace in their little bird house. I realize they are getting rarer in their native homes, but here they are proliferating much to the detriment of our native tree swallows, purple martins and eastern bluebirds.

I think I'd like to see a little more decline. I always see flocks of 60-70 birds by the Tim Horton's in Niagara Falls, pigeon out on the bits of donut thrown by patrons. How can they be in decline if they aren't even supposed to be here. A decline to zero would put thing's right.
But hey, I digress.
But Hey, I agree with you 100%
