Selling a Lens.

I have no doubt that this will probably get moved to another forum, but I'll give it a try, 'cause I don't know a more appropriate place. I currently have a Pentax-FA 50mm f:2.8 macro lens for sale. I have it listed here on the Market Place and on a local ad agency, much like Craig's List.

Here's a response I got from the local agency:

"Hello
i'm interested in immediate purchase of
your item. After several consideration over the advert
placed on the website,i've really shown
interest and i would really want to issue the
payment in form of Check .Will you be accepting Check?
.We shall solely be responsible for the
shippment of the item. Please contact me asap l for futher questions as regards this transaction
if you really show willingness in selling this item
asap.Thank You and I am expecting your response asap"

So.... what'd ya' think? Maybe he's related to the Nigerian Prince? The local agency contacted me about the response and scammers in general. I'm pretty savvy about such nonsense and there's no way I'd respond to something like this..... but I thought you might get a kick out of it.

Smells like a scam to me

Smells like a scam to me, and I think you did find the Nigerian prince's brother. Cash in hand in person, or card over the internet would be my stance.

Oh, trust me.... I have no intentions of responding. I was born at night, but it wasn't LAST night! I needed a good laugh this morning and this filled my need.

I once answered an ad for a van for sale. The "seller" said that he's ship the van to me if I'd send him the money FIRST! Right....I'll send the money right away.... after I dust myself off from falling off the turnip truck!

Sheez!

Seems that the prince's brother is really interested in macro photography. Probably wants to highlight some of the local flora in the national tourism marketing initiative.

I dunno, Dewey... seems like you could just ask him to transfer the money for the lens along with the $1M dollars he promised. You remembered to send him your bank details, and pay the transaction cost of $1,000, right?

You know Mike, the sad part of all this is, there are some poor folks who actually fall for this sort of thing.

Scammers count on the desire for the unearned. There is a lot of truth in the saying, you can't cheat an honest man.

I wish that were so, but I think there are quite a lot of innocent, needy and - with no disrespect meant - gullible people around, that gullibility somewhat exaggerated by need or a life of misfortune. I'm with Dewey on this... I think there really are some poor folks who might just fall for this kind of scamming

My best friend, an attorney and lifelong skeptic, fell for the ‘Microsoft Security Alert’ hard disc cleaning scam.

Tell him that the lens has gone, but you also have the Brooklyn Bridge for sale if he is interested.
