New Tamron 70-210 f4 seems nice.. :(

TAMRON | 70-210mm /F4 Di VC USD

Seems like a nice lens.. I saw a pentax 70-200 f4 being developed somewhere on the forum, is it realistic to expect that to arrive before I go old and die? I'd like to sell my large 2.8 zoom and get the f4 instead, I feel that lens doesn't get enough action due to it's weight

Very likely you have the same Pentax at next Fotokina.

I hear you! But the DFA* 70-200 f/2.8 is so remarkable optically, I couldn't bear to part with it. It is certainly not an everyday lens though.

I too expect the Pentax version of the f/4 will be announced soon. The roadmap says Spring 2019 for release. Presumably, with the Tamron now out, there will be no reason for delay.

When was it decided that a Pentax 70-200 f4 would be heavily based on this Tamron? There may have been a thread about it and I missed it.

They rebranded so many Tamron lenses recently in order to get a modern FF lineup up and running...
Besides, this new one kinda looks similar to the Pentax 70-200/2.8, straight cylindrical barrel and all that...

Looks good, but appears to be only Canon & Nikon mounts at this time.

That would be awesome! And since my one is not the awesome *Pentax Lens, but a Tamron 70-200 I'd be more than happy to switch I like the lens, but I just don't use it enough, carrying dfa 15-30, 28-105 and 70-200 2.8 for a full landscape kit is a burden lol. I'd like to lighten my kit up, and f4 would be plenty for me.

No worries, if it's rebranded you'll get it with a Pentax sticker... and updated coatings and price tag

Pentax did rework on two Tamron lenses at the beginning of K-1 sales. I don't know if that qualifies as "so many" and it's not an argument I want to get into [again].

If that's all you've got for proof that Ricoh is going to put a Pentax badge on this Tamron lens, along with "they made the barrel round on this Tamron", then that's pretty weak. You could say that about the DA 16-85, or the DA 60-250, or the Sigma 100-300 f4, or the Kiron 70-210, or....

I'm going to stay out of this thread from here on out as I'm not in the market for such a lens and I can only offer noise and not signal.

This would be a good candidate for a re-brand, especially since Pentax's own 70-200mm already delivers the goods when it comes to optics.

Hahaha no I don't want to start arguments, far from it.
It was only a playful and innocent stab. That kind of cylindrical barrel seems to be quite the rage, design-wise, these days.

I think as system matures we'd definitely need good quality f4 zooms 70-200 and 15-30 would be a great start

This precisely why the new DFA*70-200 is not on my list. I know that I would rarely take it. I for one am all for Richoh rebranding Tamron lenses with Pentax coatings. If this what needs to be done to get more lenses out then I say do it. My old Tamron 70-200 2.8 is still a blazingly sharp lens. The new DFA*70-200 is sharper but costs 2.5 times as much and weighs too much. I would also be interested in a lens like this. My 60-250 is my absolute favorite, but an updated design with faster autofocus would be nice.

I've always thought FF f4 lenses were in no-man's land, to be honest.

You pay a lot to get into full frame for about a stop advantage in certain areas over APS-C and these just surrender that versus f2.8 zooms on crop.

It's an expensive "treading of water".

But how often do you actually shoot below f/4? Of the 4750 shots I've taken with the DFA* 70-200, only 643 were below f/4.
