Ottawa lab sees rersurgence in film photography -- Spotmatic featured

Here's a local Ottawa story from CBC Radio (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). The CBC host used a Spotmatic on the streets of Ottawa during the development (ha ha) of the story.

I don't have any affiliation with GPC Labworks, but I hear they have a good reputation.

I took some pictures at my nephew's wedding a couple of weeks ago using a Z50P, Pentax-F 1.7 50mm, an AF330FTZ flashgun and Ilford HP5. It's been a while but I managed!

While I'm not going to open the "which is better?" or "real photographers shoot film" cans of worms, the whole experience was great fun, I enjoyed it tremendously. I wasn't "the" photographer so could just snipe from the sidelines and capture something a bit different for them - Canikon DSLRs and smartphones being present in numbers. The bride loves the retro B&W pictures I've scanned from the negs.

I can understand why people who've never done it enjoy film, the experience is different, from shooting, to the time delay for developed images, to the tactile pleasure of a glossy print straight from the lab.

And a big thumbs up for AG Photolab here in the UK for providing an excellent, quick and reasonably priced service.

Using B&W film to photograph someone "taking a selfie" is certainly 'different'. Thanks!

Good news and good to see younger folks getting into analog!

I keep telling myself to get a Canon scanner which isn't all that expensive, and start shooting film again. I miss the film mood but development with scans has gotten just way too expensive.
