After shooting Pentax since the lates on film, I had accumulated many FF lenses and upgrading them as I moved along. The hardest part was the period from about 2003-K-1 introduction when my FF lenses were used only for film and I bought crop lenses for digital. My biggest deficiency upon introduction of the K-1 was wide angle so I bought the 15-30 DFA 2.8. I still prefer the crop bodies (K-3 and others) for telephoto. Recently bought a K-1ii and now shoot with both FF bodies. This solution reminds me of my old wedding photography days where the 28-70 and 80-200 2.8 FA* were king!

I only had one lens that wasn't FF at the time of going FF: the DA 15mm.

It is probably going up for sale tomorrow, because I am skint.

A flary but tolerable Tokina 28mm F2.8 will fill in for it if someone does buy it.

My other lenses are the FA 43mm F1.9, Sigma 70mm F2.8 macro, FA 77mm F1.8, DA* 200mm F.2.8 and DA* 300mm F4. I've been kinda sorta planning on jumping to FF for quite while now and bought with that in mind.

Currently lenses that I actually use:
* Pentax K 17mm f4 fisheye. Not perfect on digital but certainly good enough and I like it. Very compact too!
* Sigma 20mm f1.8 EX DG. Its "Ok". Like the speed of course but sadly a bit soft one side / corner which limits aperture that I can really use in landscapes. Bit bulky too.
* Pentax FA 28 f2.8. Its good. Not super sharp but good enough and has nice colours (DFA 28-105 performance is pretty close though)
* Pentax FA 35 f2. Excellent - an often used lens!
* Pentax FA 50 f1.4. Good all rounder but can have nervous bokeh at f1.4 (not to mention being soft). Significantly improved all round (including bokeh) at f2
* Samyang 85 f1.4. Very good and like it - yummy bokeh
* Pentax FA100 f2.8 macro. Excellent all round performance if a little big / heavy
* Tamron 70-200 f2.8. Great performing lens but not used very often due to size / weight.
* Pentax DFA 28-105. Surprisingly good lens that you can take anywhere (I'm surprised how often I use it given I got it for WR and travel originally)
* Cosina 24mm f2.8. Good but centre sharpness but not so great over the rest of the frame and so don't often use
* Tamron SP 500 f8 mirror. Good for a mirror and fun to use
* DA L 55-300 f4 - f5.8. On full frame its usable from say 120 - 300mm. Unsurprisingly corner sharpness lower on FF but still handy to have.
* DA 70 f2.4 Limited. Not often used as vignetting a bit high and corner sharpness suffers. But like the size (and its obviously great on APS-C with my K-01).

I still need something else at the wide end. While I like the idea of the focal range of the DFA 15-30, I'm not so fussed on the size / weight (or cost for that matter). I don't really need it to be f2.8 and would prefer something smaller.

I had bought a Samyang 14mm with high hopes, liked build + Ok size but my copy was badly decentred and useless for landscape (let alone star fields) so I sent it back. The manufacturer apparently said it was all in spec and nothing wrong with it despite me providing plenty of evidence to the contrary. Eventually got credit from the supplier but I have definitely been put off this lens as my research found a few people needing to get 3 copies to get one fairly sharp at edges for FF.

I have both APS-C and FF systems, but FF is only my secondary system.

Pentax APS-C DSLR is my main system, and I prefer to use lenses optimized for APS-C with it, as they are generally lighter and more compact.
The best with Pentax FF is that it made it easy to find used APS-C lenses for cheap.

My FF system is mirrorless, and mainly for use with old manual focus Pentax K-mount and m42 lenses.
The Sony A7 I use feel closer to an old manual focus film SLR, than any Pentax DSLR I have.

I was preparing for a full frame from about 2012, so I have plenty of lenses compatible with it. I find that the primes almost all do very well on the K-1, especially the longer ones. Zooms are more problematic. Very soft corners and also softness at the long end (especially one that cover wide to short tele, telezooms generally do better) I don't have anything like a 28-200 so can't say anything about that. I am more of a primes person, but if I wanted a walk around I'd probably get the new D FA 28-105. I think Ricoh should really consider also making a compact limited wide zoom like the FA 20-35mm F4 for some more portable landscape photography and also street.

You mean, am I ready to win the K1? Absolutely
It's one reason I haven't sold my Tokina 19-35... I know I have a good copy and I think it will be terrific on FF - considering the fact that it's a budget lens of course.
That and the F 50 1.7 and Tamron 70-300 should be a great basic AF kit, not to mention the DA 35 2.4 which I'm sure would never leave the bag.
Then all the manual focus lenses should be fun as well, and even my other two AF lenses, the Sigma 30 1.4 and DA 16-45 would be fun to play with the square crop.

I've never really been APS-C ready...

I only have two APS-C lenses:
  • Pentax DA 18-55 (The non-collapsable version)
  • Pentax DA 50-200mm
Every other K, FD, SR, or F mount lens I have is full-frame, because they are film-era lenses.

I suppose I am FF ready as far as primes go, assuming all of the following are FF compatible: F 28mm, FA 50mm f1.7, DFA 100 macro WR, DA*200, DA*300. I have two zooms which are definitely APS C only DA 16-85 and 55-300 PLM. I also believe my DA Limiteds are not FF. My thought is that I would lose too much going to FF with my lenses so I am holding back and sticking with APS C, K-5 and K-3.

When APS-C came along as a digital format, I was FF ready. It was the small format I had to buy lenses for.

FF cost me $5000, including the K-1. But I could have done it for $3k.

I wanted the same capability on the K-1 I had on the K-3, so I bought the Tamron SP AF 2.8 to be the rough equivalent of my 200 2.8, and a Pentax 100 macro to be my Sigma 70 macro on APS_c.

All the lenses I bought specifically for the K-1 get used more on the K-3 than the K-1. The K-1 rarely gets used with anything but the 28-105.

I'll just list all of the lenses I have by focal length that are known to work well enough to excellently on full-frame;

14 / 17 / 24 / 28 / 28 / 28 / 28 / 35 / 35 / 40 / 50 / 50 / 50 / 55
28-70 / 28-70 / 28-105

About to get a 105 Macro from another forum member.

Most of that is manual focus film-era glass with aperture rings. There's a couple real jokes in there, like that Ricoh 55 f2.8 triplet or an Albinar 28mm "macro".

If a K-1 or autofocusing film camera dropped into my lap today, I'd go looking for an FA 28 and a DA 70. Maybe an autofocusing zoom but that's pretty secondary.

I have never used many lenses; I carry just three lenses with my K-30 on a daily basis

Sigma 10-20
Pentax-A 18-135
Pentax-A 55-300.

{I have become a big fan of zoom lenses in recent years, because they provide the quality I need at little space taken in my bag}

I still have a collection of manual lenses from my film photography days ... but should I unexpectedly end up with a K-1, it wouldn't take much to duplicate the functionality I currently have. Other users report that the 10-20 is FF useable in the 15-20mm part of its range, so just using what I already have I would be able to cover everything other than 20-28mm

Sigma 10-20 using only 15-20mm
Pentax-FA {not DFA} 28-105mm
Pentax-DA 55-300 in crop mode

If a K-1 were given me, that would free up the money I've been saving toward a KP, so I could use that money to make two purchases

Tokina 20-35mm {if available at reasonable price}
Pentax-DA 55-300mm PLM version

Sure I am!
My Sigma 120-400 is full frame, (I think!)
My DA 40 will work since it is identical to the 40XS.
my DA 20-40 will work past 24mm , According to Clackers.
My FA 50 2.8 macro is ready,
Vivitar Series 1 28-105 Macro is too,
My Takumar Bayonet 135mm should be great.
My 55-300 PLM is still going to be useful based on what I have read,
And the Princess, AKA my FA 77 Limited will work fairly well based on what I have seen here.
