He speaks fluent Cockney.
Dick Van Dyke tried it unsuccessfully in Mary Poppins, but Stanley Holloway owned it in My Fair Lady.

To the question: Are you FF ready?

NO!

FF lenses:
DFA 100mm Macro WR

APSC lenses:
SMC DA 15mm
HD DA 35mm Macro
HD DA 70mm
HD DA 16-85
HD DA 1.4xTC
DA* 300mm (Though this is said to work on FF so I guess it goes into both categories?)

In all honesty; FF intrigues me...
But I shoot primarily wildlife, long reach shots.

Pentax is already not leading for this style of photography, but I love my gear, I love this forum, and I have no burning desire to switch to Nikon (the D500 would be the only move that makes sense for me... but I can't afford that emotionally or financially!)

If I acquired a K-1 somehow, I would likely keep the HD DA35mm Macro, the DA* 300, and the HD DA 1.4xTC...
Sell everything else and buy some DFA lenses!

One day, perhaps.

I would like to have a FF and a APSC, but realistically I'll probably just hold out until the K-3ii successor and see where I go from there.

Great thread!
Love the discussion

A great musical... which reminds me...

The DA*300 is officially designated as a full frame lens by Ricoh. I've had great results from it.
The DA35 Macro Limited covers the full frame at close focal distances, and doesn't vignette too badly at longer distances. Corners aren't great though.
The DA70 Limited is fair to middling at worst.

So with 35 and 70 sort of covered, and 100 macro and 300 totally nailed, I reckon you're doing OK

Well, as I have said before on this and other sites, given the type of photography I do and the limited FF lenses I have, there is no overwhelming evidence that FF would be any advantage for me. If the it is the "ultimate" format to have, then why the sudden burst of MFT brands and offerings. For instance:

Measurement K-3II K-1x
Pixels 24.4 34
Pixels - APS-C 24.4 15
FPS 8 4 - 5 on a good day

In my case shooting and cropping images taken with a 300mm Vivitar -TX mount (purchased in 70's) and cropping down to the size needed would have significantly smaller pixels than my K-3II. I also tend to keep cameras for a long time. I have my 35mm SLR's from the 70's so if I really wanted to shoot FF I will just go back to film. Using film I will not be shooting Piano Recitals inside the theater from the balcony at ISO 2000 as I do now.

I do not really do video, although I might try it out. However, buying a Pentax DSLR to shoot video is not what you really want to do (I did try it during one music festival, but the microphone ended up being a joke and I really do not have video software that allows anything other than pasting pieces together in a haphazard way let alone correct color balance)

I bow down.

Great blog about the Pentax designers too (even if the colours make it very hard to read).

My macro and wildlife primes are full-frame (FF in bold):
DFA 100 f2.8 Macro WR
FA*300 f4.5 (and Kenko PZ-AF 1.5x Teleplus SHQ TC)
Sigma 400mm f5.6 Tele Macro
Plus the DA-L 55-300 f4-5.8 and DA 55-300 f4.5-6.3 PLM seem to be OK at the long end.

At the wide-normal end, it's a mixed bag:
DA 12-24 - OK at the longer end?
DA 18-135
DA 20-40 Ltd - OK from the mid-20s?
DA 35 f2.4
FA 43 Ltd
FA 50 f2.8 macro
FA 77 Ltd

I guess if I got a wide-normal zoom like the DFA 28-105 I'd be reasonably well covered, with a fairly lightweight kit.

But in all honesty, I'm pretty content with APS-C. I like the portability of the K-3 and K-S2. The K-3 is pretty good for macro and wildlife (which is a lot of what I shoot), the K-S2 is good for grab-and-go. If the next APS-C flagship has better AF and significantly better high ISO than on the K-3, that would be my preferred next move.

The hardest part for me was the wide angle lens. This was solved with the DFA 15-30. A lot of Pentax primes are full frame compatible (DA 40 is passable, DA *55 is good). There are other cheaper (and smaller) options out there using third party lenses.
