It’s nearly a week since we had a Friday the Thirteenth, but no-one seems to have run a Black Friday sale.
The older denizens of Oz among us probably remember when Ted's (a big Oz photography chain) used to do Friday 13th sales. But CRK (Pentax and lots more distributor) has given in to pressure and followed the US Black Friday event in recent years. I got my K-3 that way. I think in this era of closely connected global communities there is a tendency to do a "follow the leader" thing and we may see the US "Black Friday" institutionalized here.

Isn’t Australia about the only place with marsupials outside of the US (or really, the other way around, I suppose). You’d think Pogo would have been big there... 🙂

Yes...The sense that I first heard it and the sense it had while was growing up (before the huge post-Thanksgiving sales) here in the NW corner of the U.S. was as a synonym for Good Friday.

There are good deals year-round. In the camera industry, many coincide with major trade shows, so we tend to get a lot of deals in the fall and spring, with not too many in the summer. Of course, there are exception to the norm- that's why we offer price alerts through the deal finder. . . . .
knowing about the deals is just step 1

finding the $ to take advantage of them is step 2

any chance of the forum helping with that step

I think South America has possums as well

Possums

Possums, which are tree-dwellers, are the most widespread marsupial. Like Tasmanian devils, possums give birth to as many as 20 offspring, but only a few survive. There are 13 species of possums in Australia. North America is home to one species, the Virginia opossum, known to "play dead" when threatened by a predator. The yapok, or water opossum, one of multiple possum species in South America, is carnivorous and an able swimmer.

There are quite a few species in South America but we, in Canada, also have Virginia Opossums. Admittedly, most are US born and we trained them to cross the border to smuggle those great US Black Friday deals up north in their pouches.

Black Friday deals in Canada became popular a few years after they took off in the US, partly to combat cross border shopping and partly because our Opossum population was getting out of hand.

I don't dare be superstitious about that; my buddy is a black cat.

A few more interesting things about Friday the 13th; 13 Facts About Friday the 13th

So, with at least one every year, and a maximum of three, retailers are missing out on a few opportunities.

If nothing else, this little cross-cultural discussion has added to the monthly post count.

So, cultural leakage can be a good thing.

6 months no interest, not enough

[ don't know the last time we paid interest on a credit card, credit card companies hate people like us - those who can afford to and do pay off the balance before interest applies ]
