I've seen bubble wrap, newspaper, bags and other items been used as padding material, but never about a mile of what seems to be audio or video tape

I think it does. It looks like a robot's head from a 1950s B-movie. Wouldn't like to meet it in the dark, especially if it is armed with that flash unit. Those things have been known to fire broken glass at innocent people

This appears to occur when someone 'reads' the manual, which indicates that the basic lens is available in those fittings, but does not realise that they are separate mounts. I have enquired about lenses with that description, but most sellers appear to revel in their ignorance. Best response I ever received was along the lines of :

'If you don't want to buy it, don't waste my time.' !
