I didn't realize the camera was set for a long-ish exposure and when I didn't hear the mirror return, I moved the camera to see why...
Been there... done that!

I enjoy impressionist photography, some great examples here.

You don't know what you are missing. Look back in the thread there are some gems here. This isn't a style I would advocate doing a lot of - but there is gold in them thar hills for some subjects and some shots. Few and far between but they exist.

I ha a Nikor 50/1.2 that on a good day was less sharp than some of the images shown in this thread. It cured me of all bokeh all the time images forever.
Having said that, I’m not above doing soft and dreamy nudes from time to time but that ism’t out of focus, it’s just soft.

LOL - I used some copies that were sharper than your apparently but I know what you mean. I don't mean shots where you have no choice - I mean where you make the choice to force the softness - like my christmas balls shot earlier (and yes that is an unfortunate way to phrase that.)

I know I've taken a ton of these, but I've only posted a couple online... with the 2nd being questionable as the ripples themselves are in focus, but the foliage itself is blurred:

Had a play with some old glass. Figured lenses that did good bokeh shots would be the way to go. I like doing good old bokeh shots where you still has that point of interest still in full sharpness like it is that last desperate link to sanity. Without that focused point of interest you find yourself concentrating on the balance of colours so much more. Quite weird to be using the focus to fine tune the amount of bokeh you require. Red shot with a Fujinon 55mm f2.2 that I had sitting around but never used because the only nice things the reviews could say about it was it's crazy bubble bokeh. Yellow shot with a K series SMC 50mm 1.4. Both wide open - red one cropped a lot.

Here are a couple of my out-of-focus pictures (both on purpose!)

The first is of water drops on the front steps

The second is some zoomed parking lot lights at night (used for an example of night shots for the photo class I was teaching)

Bokeh balls -- now these are proper bokeh balls. So out of focus it has gone sharp again! I flipped the element in my projector lens again. These are sun sparkles through trees a long way away massively out of focus. 150mm 2.8 1/8000

The foreground focus and background blur is more common but some of those are extreme and wild.

I've been playing with focusing on the background.
