What is your "Lens of the Year 2018"

Looking at your photos throughout the year, you must have many favorite photos and notice what lens helps produce those photos.

Please share:
  • 1 or 2 of the lens helps you produce many of your favorite photo in 2018.
  • post the top 3 images produced by the lens or lenses you mention.
  • a link to your gallery.

I hope your information can help us (me) make a decision when purchasing new gears in the year to come.

Have a happy new year and I hope you all have a wonderful year ahead.

-edit-
Not to be confused with a list of new lenses in 2018. This post is just another way for you to show your work and talk about your beloved lenses. It could be the lens you used the most in 2018. A legacy lense you just discovered in 2018. A lens helps push you to a next new level this year. The lense makes you WOW. The lense that helps you won an award in 2018. After all, it is "your" lense of the year.

1. FA 77 Ltd
It's a "wow" lens. Colours, contrast and details pop with this lens.

Here are my "lens of the year 2018",
Lens: Da 21 smc Limited
I was a skeptic of this lens at first. Having a DA15 which I like and reading some bad review about the 21 long ago, so I went for expensive and high regard FA20. LOL, the DA21 proves me wrong!

Photos: most of them are using long exposure and time stacking technics.
I love starburst from the DA15, and DA21 can do it as well.

It can do (very) low light handheld too. It just perfect for night street photography.

I took this photo last night. To me, It is another confirmation how good the DA21 is.

For me lens #1 this year is the DA 55-300 PLM.I've used it for sports, landscapes, wildlife, closeups, and theater, in weather from well below the rated -10c to pouring rain. Every time I packed my bag with my digital camera, the first question was "can I really afford to leave it at home."
I'm posting three images to show the variety, though I was tempted to add many more

Lens #2 is harder, but I think it goes to the fa 43, my new default concert lens together with the da 70, but I've also used the fa on film for street photos and more (last two photos).

My lens of the year is the DA* 60-250 f/4. Over the past few years I have been shooting exclusively with primes HD DA Limited's and the D FA 100 Macro WR. It was a tough decision to choose between the DA* 200 and DA* 60-250. The versatility of the 60-250 has been extremely helpful. This zoom is without question a stack of primes!!! An absolute joy to shoot with once you master the modest AF speed.

Well I have a feeling this will probably change this year (as I have just picked up a FA77 and FA31) but I have been having fun with my old Super Takumar 50 f1.4 on the K-1:

My lens 2018

The SMC FA* 24mm AL IF 1:2 was a lens I loved back in the film days, once I had the K1 I thought it was time to pull it out again, I was so glad that I had a chance to use it again

40 mm limited

What a great idea 4 a thread

I got the 40 limited in may

It was my first limited

I missed the post delivery, so had to pick it up my self.
I did the next morning .
Got to work, took it out and thought, it is so tiny, and so beautiful .
The picture i attach is the first picture I took with it. (at the bus stop going home)

i remember thinking wow, what clarity, colors, sharpness .
Definitely a wow moment
it hardly leaves my KP, although the 70 i got a month later is getting some use too

Well, I have two "lenses of the year 2018", both of them are not Pentax, sorry!
I love these lenses, they are not perfect but I find that color rendition, bokeh and sharpness are amazing.

EXIF data is available in the full sized photos (just click the photo)

1. Oshiro/Bresser (true copy or rebranded Venus/Laowa ?) 60mm F/2.8 2:1 macro

my photography seemed to travel two paths for 2018, if you follow my lenses:

1> macro lenses - I purchased multiple macro lenses in 2018, all of them are stunners: DA35/2.8 Limited, D FA 50/2.8, Sigma 70/2.8, Vivitar 55/2.8, Tamron 52B (90/2.5), and a Mamiya 60/2.8 - all stunners in their own right, but one did out-shine the rest. The HD DA 35mm f2.8 Macro Limited quickly became a favorite and is my 'deserted-isle' lens (if I could have one and only one lens)...

2> M42 lenses - I traveled back in time for this venture - I even bought an older DSLR body just for M42 lenses; within a short span of time, nine different lenses arrived and quickly worked their way into rotation in my Daily and Single challenge routines... some notable lenses: Soligor C/D 35/2 P, Super Takumar 55/1.8, S-M-C Takumar 105/1.8, Cosina 55/1.4, and the already noted Mamiya 60/2.8... but it's the Cosina 55mm f1.4 that has the most 'Art' to it...

the DA 35 Limited first:

such an easy lens to live with and love, beautiful build quality, and a hugely-useable lens

and the Cosina:

fabled Tomioka-design, etc - this lens is just a joy to use

I used my sigma 70mm the most because I did a lot of bug macro. I have had it some years now.
My lens of the year was the 55-300 PLM. I bought it late 2017 and was surprised how much I used it and the results I was able to get. It does amazing close focus paired with the 1.4x tc.

DA* 55 1.4
Got one on sale for about $400 USD. I feel like I robbed a bank.

It will never be my most used lens, but it's alway a joy to pull it out of the bag. I'm always looking for opportunities to use it.

DA 35 F2.4

I bought this lens to fill the gap in my primes collection as I tend to like primes more than zooms. At first, I hadn't expected anything special but later on I started liking this lens more and more.

So what if it's a Tamron

My favorite strengths of the D-FA 15-30 are its sunbursts and resistance to CA and flare. Sharpness and color are excellent also. Its only real weakness is its bulk.

My lens of the year? Well, I thought I'd just check how many shots I took with each of my lenses, and I was flabbergasted! I was certain the DFA 28-105 would be my most used lens, being my default walk-around option. However, the 28-105 (1987 shots) was pipped by the DFA 150-450 (2142). So, I guess by weight of numbers, the DFA 150-450 f/4.5-5.6 has to be my "Lens of the Year".

Happy New Year everyone.
