Dog Star to dim on the night of the 23rd!

For all of our astrophotographers, The star Sirius will be occulted by an asteroid if you are in a narrow band though the central portion of North America.

better not blink

" . . . Occultation Pages suggests that observers in the shadow path will see "the star fade over a period of several tenths of a second, probably will not disappear completely, and then will recover its full brightness over another several tenths of a second." However, it also suggests that a half-second drop in brightness may be observable for those standing near the edge of the path. . . . "

Cool find!

If this one misses you, here's a longish list of other occultations for 2019: asteroidoccultations

P.S. Sony owners scoff at this -- they've had a star eater built into their camera for years!

Cool! In the article they illustrate the night sky with a photo of my “local” Stonehenge replica. The map shows the track going right thru Alliance Nebraska, they should have used a picture of Carhenge instead...
