"Poverty porn" another name for gear porn or lens porn. Want to guess how I know?
Well, there's this meaning, John:

Poverty porn - Wikipedia

You aren't mistaking it for G.A.S? (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)

Poverty porn? Just look at Leica's LFI Gallery. Photos of the world's poorest people, taken by the world's richest people. Africa | LFI Gallery

Or as an online photography guide:

1: Fly halfway around the world to take photos of the environmental impact of modern industrial technology in developing countries.

2: Replace your entire camera kit with brand new gear each year, so that you can capture said environmental impact using the latest modern technology.

3: On arrival at your destination, complain bitterly about the tourist hordes that have arrived with you on your flight and are spoiling your authentic experience as a true traveller and explorer.

4: If the local poor people you have come to photograph don't want to be the subject of your artistic endeavours, shoot anyway. Only a well-composed photo of that poor old lady with one arm waving you away with her remaining arm could possibly reveal the true sensitivity for her plight in your soul.

5: Consider joining an organised photographic tour group, on which some of the area's most aesthetically appealing poor folk will have been paid a dollar or two to pose mournfully for you and ten other snappers outside their hovels.

6: After a recuperative rest at a five star beach resort, fly home and post your deeply truthful and empathetic photos online.

I was looking for a macro article, I'm a bit disappointed. Please make the next in your series:

"This fine art photographer specializing in landscape, wedding, street, and portrait photography took the macro world by storm with these six easy steps, and you can too!"

Yes but only if you use Clacker's wisdom here:

1. Know your settings -- it would be better to set yourself back inside.

2. It's all about the light -- some bright warm sunlight would be really nice.

3. It's all about the gear -- a good parka would help.

4. Don't give up -- OK, this one is false... go back inside.

5. Think outside the box -- we've thought enough, let's get back in the box.

6. Use some sort of phone app -- this is good for calling emergency services to come rescue you.

And as a bonus you'll get some great shots of Canada geese-bumps.

I stand corrected. I thought "poverty porn" referred to the inevitable descent into poverty caused by G.A.S. My ribs are not showing just yet but I do have a few flies. I keep a list of G. which I have A.d recording value, price paid, and serial numbers. This is so that upon my death my wife can sell the stuff for pennies on the dollar. I like the flies because they help to keep the old woman away.

You know, Ian, I found this really helpful. I think maybe I'll try the street photography tips next weekend.

The only thing is that I feel as though you didn't make us work hard enough for these tips. Having them all presented on a single page is so last decade. These should be shown individually in a slide show with stock photos that have nothing to do with the tips, with periodic Sony Ads popping up. I know that's my preferred way of viewing tips like these.

Thanks, guys, the huge number of clicks I'll get will mean I can use them in an email exchange with a sales rep. I'll get an A7 III for free if I follow up with a 'Why I'm Swapping to Sony' article.
And six months after that, you can follow it up with:

Why I am ditching Sony for Nikon.

Followed by:

Why I am ditching Nikon for Canon.

Ad nauseum. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I made a pinhole camera for the last solar eclipse. I took pictures of the image it made. I failed, I wasn't thinking outside the box

But you did learn the hole truth -- pinhole cameras have d' fraction of d' resolution of lensed cameras!

Yeah, you know how it works, Brian. It'll be the same as the landscape article, except, for example, the phrase 'grad filter' will be replaced by 'extension tube'.

Each paragraph will have the same frustrating generalities.

Sure, string it out over half a dozen pages of other clickbait.

That's a particular beef of mine - when it's a photography website, the article may be useless but at least the images tend to be by the author who's an actual photographer.

When it's a generic travel or hobby or consumer electronics site attempting photography advice, they can be Getty or whatever images peppering an article written by some poor overworked journo with no skills but a brief from their editor to get it done by Tuesday afternoon.

Sure. As editorial work has plummeted in the last decade for photographers, they're turning to ways other than creating images to pay the rent. Running workshops. Writing books. Organizing photo taking tours. Being shills for one brand or another, anyone who'll pay them.

I get it, you do whatever it takes to make a living. But everyone needs to understand that pros giving their opinions on gear so often have strings attached to their ankles and wrists, and a sales rep somewhere is operating them.

Monetize it by having an irrelevant ad come up between each tip. If you could have an autoplay video with obnoxious music come up, that would be even better.
