Almost the same here at a waterfront cafe in Bodrum, Turkey (one of the most bag-theft prone towns almost anywhere!) over a decade ago - my backpack (luckily not transparent!) was still on the seat when I went back about 20 mins later .

I was gone about 5 or 6 minutes

but I was sweating a lot as I realized what I had done ( or rather not done - take the bag ) and made my way back

Much depends on the degree of civilization of the country where one is ... sometimes, and for some, it is also doubly sad to measure one's own.

Unfortunately and fortunately everyone lives on their own...
