Engadget on SLR vs Mirrorless

This Engadget video does a great job of explaining the differences between DSLRs and mirrorless cameras:

He goes into a lot of detail regarding the mirrorless autofocus system and how the major brands are really pushing what AF systems are capable of. It seems to me that it is only a matter of time before mirrorless cameras become the norm.

I know sony and fuji are selling lots, but just how much of the market share do ML cameras have? Can Pentax get into the game?

MILCs will replace DSLRs in two years - or so I've been told every year for the past ten years.

What's laughable is the total confusion between photography and camera equipment. The author of the video isn't confused though, he know what he is doing (advertising).

μ4/3 was foisted on the masses in 2009...just as I was starting to research DSLRs...we've been told every year since that EVF would be better than OVF any day now.

It will happen. Someday. Well, sort of kind of. Someday EVF will be 'good enough' at which point all the benefits,
(histogram, highlight alert overlays, etc), will outweigh the true to life image that an OVF provides. Of course, there's
also the likely possibility someone will figure out how to bring the best of the EVF to OVF, at which point all bets are
off.

Someday. But not today.

I just hope Pentax is keeping a close enough eye on EVFs so that when the time does come, they will be ready with an option for a k-mount EVF (or hybrid VF) camera. Pentax clearly wants to support OVFs all the way, but if EVFs ever get so good that even OVF purists (like me) will strongly consider adopting a MILC, then Pentax had better be ready with a compelling compromise.

I hope there will had tone curves, dodge , burn and dodge&burn, shadows and highlight adjustement in the EVF so that I can set all processing parameters before I take the image. In the old DSLR days, you'd take 3 exposure bracketed shots and use up some extra space on the SD card. With future EVF, I hope to be able to adjust tone curves with a blink of an eye.

Without a doubt he is advertising ML systems, but very informative none the less. Where ML cameras really shine is video and AF. But lets be honest, if you are shooting Pentax these things are not your primary concern anyways...

I was hoping he would give a shout out to Pentax when he was talking about in body stabilization and viewfinder crop on DSLRs! Guess he forgot about us

Indeed. Do you mean to implement RawTherapee as an in-camera app? Its executable has a fairly small footprint. The menu might be a bit awkward for eye control, though.

I just know i like OVF. And while there is a OVF camera on the market ill buy an OVF camera.
If there will be a time whene there is none, ill just give up on photography as a hobby or just use my smartphone.
